デ・ラ・ルスのレビュー欄がサラ地になってたんで、不肖・私が耕します。
言うまでもなく"グラミー賞"堂々受賞の和製サルサバンドです。1989のニューヨークで熱狂的に支持され、彼等の本邦での人気はいわば逆輸入のかたち。解散後その血は熱帯Jazz楽団などに受け継がれています。
私は幸運にもブレイク前の彼らのステージを日比谷野音で観たひとりです。このアルバムのナンバーを生で聴けた訳ですが、その演奏力は筋金入りのノリであった事を証言しておきます。
　このデビューアルバムでは、まだこのグループの柱であるコンガPlayerの大儀見　元がカルロス菅野と共にバンドを率いていました。ちなみにニューヨークサルサのレーベルRMMからリリースされた本作は、ドラを叩くフンドシ男(^^:)のジャケット写真でした。
　本作の3.6.7でシンセを10でピアノで参加しているRMMのプロデューサー"セルヒオ・ジョージ"は、ニューヨーク・サルサ(ベネズエラやプエルトリカン・サルサなどに比べ洗練されています)の立役者で、当然本作のプロデュースも務め、いいセンス見せてます。
　私のお気に入りナンバーは6、3.4.7.10ですが、好みでどの曲も楽しめます。ヴォーカルのNORAは、本場の歌手と較べられるのだから可哀想だけど、本場に熱狂的ファンがたくさんいる事を思えば、日本人というハンデは杞憂なのかもしれません。
　ちまたでサルサの魅力と言うとリズムばかりが言われますが、私の楽しみ方は、間奏等に垣間みられる魅惑的なブラスのフレージングやオーケストレーション。ハマると快感です!

ジプシーキンングなんかもそうでしたが、ビックネームになっていくとどうしても、洗練？大衆向け？にアレンジされてしまうので、純粋に音楽の歓びが感じられるのはデビューアルバムと思ってます。オルケスタも一枚目のこれが個人的に一番音に浸って楽しめます。
