その風貌からは想像もつかないような美声の持ち主ポール・デイビス。
これは彼の作品の中でも、数多くのシングルヒットを生み出した傑作です。
タイトル曲はもちろん、｢65ラブアフェアー｣｢オリエンタル・アイズ｣等の珠玉の名曲が散りばめられています。

自分の中では、｢パステルメッセージ｣｢クールナイト｣｢アイ・ゴー・クレイジー｣がこの人の代名詞とも呼べる３大傑作アルバムだと思っています。
貴女も彼の甘く切ない歌声に酔いしれてみませんか？

その昔、アナログで 散々聴きましたが、今月の「レコード・コレクターズ」でポール・デイヴィスが昨年亡くなったことを知り購入しました。当時ヒットした「｀65ラヴ・アフェアー」や「クール・ナイト」以外にもよい曲が多いですが、改めて聞き直して考えたのは、実は洗練された雰囲気とは裏腹にそのベースにはおそらくポール・デイヴィス自身がたとえば十代の頃愛聴したであろう５０年代のポップス等の影響が色濃く見え隠れするということ、そしてそのことがこのアルバムが長く聞き継がれていることの理由のひとつなのではないかという事です。はじめて聴いてからもう３０年近くなりますが、ウェスト・コーストの一連の作品ともども自分でもおかしくなるほど聞き飽きしないアルバムです。ところで、今回アメリカ本国のジャケットで紙ジャケ化され、長年親しんだこのジャケットが実は日本仕様であったことを知りましたが、やはり上から被せられているこのジャケットでないとなにか締まらない感じがするのはおそらく僕一人ではないでしょう。

このアルバム、20年以上前にアナログレコードで散々聞いて、忘れていた一枚。しかしこの頃のＣＭなどのリバイバルの波に乗って、聞こえてきたCoolNight、（どこぞのドラマの挿入歌のようでしたが）もう涙ちょちょ切れ（古典的！）、ボズスキャッグスやこの人の曲をカセットに詰め込み口説き文句によく利用させていただきました。　デジタル版になっていてくれてよかった~
