   カナダ、ノバスコシア州出身のシンガーソングライター、サラ・マクラクラン。『Touch』は1988年彼女が若干20歳のときの作品。デビューアルバムとしてはいい出来だが、シンセサウンドが主流だった80年代後半にはやや真面目すぎたかもしれない。とはいえマクラクランの素朴なヴォーカルと凝ったギターワークは1曲目の「Out of the Shadows」、おなじみ「Vox」（ほとんど冗談ともいえるようなリミックスバージョンが最後に収録されているが）、うっとりするような「Strange World」といった名曲を生み出した。

   若々しいロマンチシズムを一番感じるのは「Trust」（「心の奥深くにしまった風景／遠い昔、安らぎと喜びにみちた頃...」）。男性ボーカルやキラキラしたシンセ音、ボンゴ、エコーの深くかかったギターのフレーなどが散りばめられたキャッチーな曲だ。その後に続く曲はみなそれぞれ魅力的だが、聴き方によっては空虚な印象が強すぎるかもしれない。しかし、今作はマクラクランがまだ初々しい、神秘的な歌手だった頃の記念碑として価値のある1枚だ。この頃ほどの情熱は世界的成功を収めた以降の彼女には感じられないのだから。（Rebecca Robinson, Amazon.co.uk）

カナダ出身の20歳の自作自演歌手のデビュー盤。アコースティックな音楽だが,所謂フォーク調ではなく,なんとなくクラシカル。彼女自身の歌とピアノと生ギターも本格的な訓練を感じさせるもので,K・ブッシュやS・ヴェガを連想させるところもある才女。

☆幻想的！！神秘的！！ギター・ピアノなどのアコースティック（エレクトリックの反対）楽器を基調とした曲作りで、ファルセットをきれいに使ったソフトな女性の声（エンヤなども共通するものを持っているけれど…）。しかし、サラ・マクラクランの曲の中にいると、一瞬にして別世界へ飛ばされてしまっているかのような気持ちになります。心地よい落ち着いた音楽に浸ってみて下さい。

１０年以上前、小さなＣＤショップで何気なく手にした一枚のアルバム。そのクラシカルで上品なジャケットに目も心も奪われ、なんの迷いもなくレジに向かってふらふらと歩いていた。はじめて"Out of the shadows"と"VOX"を聴いたときの感動は今でも忘れられない。その神々しいまでの響きに包み込まれてなす術もなかった。透き通るような音と様々なイメージを映し出す歌詞が溶け合う。再びジャケットをしげしげと見つめる。そのイラストがサラ自身の手になるものであると知って更に驚いた。以来、彼女の曲を追い、聴き続けている。今思えばこのアルバムは、サラの来るべき大活躍の兆しだった。
