   OVA23話、TVシリーズ47話、劇場版映画4本、さらにマンガ、小説とあらゆるジャンルに展開されたアニメ・シリーズ「機動警察パトレイバー」の基盤となったOVA全7話。脚本を伊藤和典が執筆、押井守と吉永尚之が監督を担当している。
   特車二課第2小隊にレイバーと共に配属された隊員たちは個性派ぞろい。自分のレイバーにアルフォンスと名前をつける女性隊員泉野明、発砲したくてたまらない熱血漢・太田功、実はレイバー製造で有名な企業の御曹司である篠原遊馬、心優しき巨漢山崎ひろみ、サラリーマン出身の進士幹泰。そんな彼らが後藤隊長や整備班の榊班長らに囲まれて成長して行く物語…ではあるのだが、この初期OVAでは、登場するキャラたちのドジが目立つエピソードが多かったりする。そんな中、後藤の旧友である自衛隊の甲斐がクーデターを起こす第5、6話「二課の一番長い日」の緊迫感溢れるタッチが強烈な印象を残す。（斉藤守彦）

５・６話にあたる「二課の一番長い日」は絶賛に値する作品。
ストーリーとしては２作目の劇場版に似ているが、あちらは自衛隊による「戦争」を描くのに対し、こちらは「クーデター」である。
特に前半は「何かが起こる雰囲気」を見事に醸し出し、作中の時間は僅か二日にも関わらずそれ以上の感覚を味わわせてくれた。
ついに事件が起こり、第二小隊隊員達のそれぞれの行動の起こし方は絶妙である。家族を振り切るもの、張り切るもの、そしてそれぞれの決意…これらが見事に描かれている。
そして後半、たった一日の話でありながらすさまじいまでに展開する物語、クライマックス、アメリカ海軍や民間企業の力まで借りて敵をねじ伏せるシーンは圧巻。
事件は終わり、敗北したにも関わらず「まだできる！！」と言わんばかりの首謀者も顔で終わらせたのは背中に鳥肌が立ったもの。

ちなみにこの「二課の一番長い日｣は新ＯＶＡシリーズ終了直後、ファンの間で行われた「良かった作品」アンケートで１作目劇場版と壮絶な一騎打ちの末１位になった程、文句なしの名作。

押井守監督の映画「機動警察パトレイバ−２　The Movie」より、このDVDに収録されている押井守監督のOVA第５・６話「二課の一番長い日」の方がおもしろい！
「機動警察パトレイバ−２　The Movie」のファンの方は必見である。

また篠原遊馬の立喰いシーンも素晴らしい。
「コロッケ！」
「生卵！」
「おいなりさん！」
と店のおやじとの絶妙なやりとりは「立喰師列伝」を予感させる。

それにしても「警察対自衛隊」とはこれ程おもしろいテーマはないのではないだろうか？！

OVA中でも名作中の名作「二課の一番長い日(前・後)」が収録されています。まさに押井守の本領発揮と言った感じで、劇場版２作目の布石とも言える作品ではないでしょうか。当時この話を見た時、非常に興奮した事を覚えており、それは今見ても同じであると実感するほど秀逸な出来であると思います。また当時貴重だった「かわら版」も収録されており、ファンには嬉しい仕様になっています。
