   父を亡くした少女ペリーヌは、母とともに、父の故郷フランスを目指して旅をする。道半ばで母も亡くなり、一人ぼっちになったペリーヌは、会ったことのない祖父のもとを目指すが…。「家なき子」で知られるエクトル・マロの原作のアニメ化。1978年の1月1日に放送開始、12月31日に最終回。全53回という、「世界名作劇場」シリーズ上もっとも長い作品である。
   物語の前半は、ペリーヌの旅が描かれる。さまざまな人との出会い、そして別れ。やがてペリーヌは、祖父の住むマロクールの村にたどり着くが、自分のことを名乗れないまま、祖父の経営する工場で働き始める。やがてその英語力を買われて祖父の秘書に抜擢されたペリーヌは祖父に近づけたことを喜ぶが、祖父は母を激しく憎んでいた…。
 「世界名作劇場」シリーズに少女が主人公の話は多いが、この主人公・ペリーヌは、他の少女たちほど無邪気ではない。とは言えもちろん陰気なわけでもなく、つらい境遇を淡々と受け入れ、そしてその聡明さと意志の強さで運命を切り開いていく。シリーズ中随一と言ってよい、現代的なヒロイン像だ。
   絵柄もシンプルながら、それぞれのキャラクターの特徴をしっかり伝えていて魅力的。「世界名作劇場」シリーズ初期の佳作である。（安川正吾）

度重なる悲しみを越えても、たくましく生きようとするペリーヌの後半の話の始まりです。ルクリおばさんと別れ、おじいさんのいるマルクールで生活を始めます。おじいさんの住む、お城のようなお屋敷に立ちつくすだけのペリーヌでしたが、それでもマルクール村で最初に出会った少女、ロザリーの助けで、どうにかおじいさんの工場で働くことができました。後半の話を一気に見たい方はこの巻から見ることをお勧めします。これからは更なる苦労がペリーヌに降りかかりますが、そのたび事に、ペリーヌを支えてくれる友人や善意の人たちに救われて、幸せのエンディングにつながっていきます。この巻はペリーヌが一人で頑張って生活する姿を描いています。
