   わんぱく坊主の代名詞のようなトム・ソーヤーと仲間のハックルベリー・フィンたちの冒険にあふれた毎日。マーク・トウェインのあまりにも有名な児童文学をアニメ化した、1980年放送作品だ。
 「世界名作劇場」シリーズの主人公としては珍しく、トム・ソーヤーには「悲しい境遇」も「苦しい経験」も無縁。いや、実はトムは両親を早くに亡くしているし、ハックもけっこう複雑なバックグラウンドを持ってはいるのだが、毎日を明るく活発に生きている。トムが学校をサボろうか迷っているのを見ると、学校に行きたくても行けない他の「名作」シリーズの主人公を思いだして一言言いたくなっちゃったりして…。
   終盤ではトムとハックが殺人事件を目撃したことから始まるサスペンスタッチの展開もあるが、基本的には「のどか」そのもの。ミシシッピの雄大な流れの風景とともに、古き良きアメリカの雰囲気をたっぷり楽しめる。キャラクターは「名作」シリーズ中もっとも表情豊かだし、トムとハックのツーカーぶりも楽しい。気楽に楽しめるという意味では、この上ない作品だろう。（安川正吾）
