   カナダのプリンス・エドワード島。グリーンゲイブルズと呼ばれる土地に住むマシュウとマリラ兄妹のもとにある日やってきたのは、赤い髪とそばかすの小さな少女、アン・シャーリー。孤児院から男の子を引き取ったつもりが、手違いで女の子が来てしまったのだ。一度はアンを孤児院に返そうと思ったマリラだが、やがて考え直し、アンはグリーンゲイブルズに住めることに…。女の子なら誰でも知っている、ルーシー・モード・モンゴメリーの原作を高畑勲監督でアニメ化。宮崎駿、近藤喜文ら、後のスタジオジブリ作品の担い手達がこぞってスタッフとしてクレジットされている、1979年放送の「世界名作劇場」である。
   空想好きで、よく笑い、泣き、怒るアンは、「名作」シリーズ中もっとも感情の起伏が激しい主人公。そんなアンが、マシュウの包み込むような愛、マリラの厳しい親心、さらに「心の友」ダイアナとの交流などを通して成長していく様子がみずみずしくつづられる。グリーンゲイブルズをはじめとしたアヴォンリーの村の田園風景は美しく、そしてその中でアンが繰り広げる想像の描写もアニメならではの鮮やかさと大胆さに満ちている。オープニング映像も出色の出来ばえだ。
   素晴らしい原作と、日本アニメ界屈指の才能の幸福な出会い。「赤毛のアン」は、「世界名作劇場」シリーズが到達した、間違いなく最高傑作のひとつだと言える。（安川正吾）

クィーン学園という名門で勉学に励み、目指す最優秀者に送られる金メダルもしくは大学への奨学金受賞者の発表の回が収められている回です。
グリーンゲーブルズから離れた街で生活するアンが唯一マシューやマリラ、ダイアナの元へ帰る週末も卒業試験間際ではかなえられない状態･･･。
そんな折、マシューが持病の心臓発作で倒れた。

それをマシューもマリラもアンに心配させてはいけないと、黙っていたいが、風の頼りで知ってしまったアンは大雪の中グリーンゲーブルズに帰る場面も収められている。
そしてこのDVDの最後。無口なマシューがアンに最後にささげる愛情を絶対に見逃してはなりません。
今思い出しても涙が出るくらいの、感動な言葉･･･

是非、アンとマシューの愛をこのDVDで見てください。
きっと皆さん涙することと思います。

アンを影ながら見守っていたマシューが亡くなります。
現実の人間が亡くなる時と同じようにあっけない突然ともいえる死に方をします。
アニメのキャラクターが死んでもそれ程悲しくないのですが、知り合いが亡くなったかのような悲しさで溢れます。
本当に生きているかのように見せる演出力に感服しました。
親孝行は生きている間にしておくものだとしみじみ感じます。
本当の親子ではないけれど、血の繋がった親子以上の確かな『絆』を築いた『家族』に舞い降りた悲劇。
最終回ではないけれど感動の最終回の名場面に入れて欲しいくらいマシューの死は重く涙し感動出来ます。
簡単に『死』を取り扱うドラマが多い中、こんなに『死』に対して真っ直ぐな描き方をするドラマをアニメで表現できるのです。
アニメもまだまだ捨てたものじゃないなと思いました。
