私が住んでる関西でのＴＶ放映時間が、朝の9時30分からだったと思います。「なんか新しいアニメがあるからみよかー」と思って眠い目こすって見ていたら、能が出てくるは、ロボット（正確には違いますが）が出てくるは、なんか業の深そうな一家は出てくるはで、「朝っぱらからこんなもん見るか！」と2回ぐらい見て止めた記憶があります。でも、やっぱり気にはなっていて、ＤＶＤを全部買ってよく見てみたら、なんと。凄いじゃないですか！いい仕事しまくっていらしゃるじゃないですか！買って損無しじゃないですか！サンライズさん！高橋監督！！エヴァンゲリオンと比較される場合が多いと思いますが、ガサラキは、最終話でちゃんと話がまとまります。じゃあエヴァはどうなんだと怒る方もいらっしゃると思いますが、あちらは話がまとまらないから面白いんです。見る側に問題提起を起こさせる作品ですから。作品をまとめるだけの時間とお金が無かったという話も聞きますが、結果オーライです。ガサラキは全体的に雰囲気が重い作品ですので、好き嫌いがはっきり分かれる作品だと思います。Ｖｏｌ.１だけ見て「あわないなー」と思った人は、全部は買わない方が良いと思います。「あうなー」と思った人は全部買って損が無いと思います。ストーリーは、リアルロボット＋魂の輪廻＋絶対的存在の探索＋中東問題＋飽食日本とアジアの関係＋日本人とは何か＋純愛＋家族愛＋自衛隊問題などを煮込んだシチューみたいだと、私は思ってます。一度、お試しにご覧になってはいかがでしょうか。

軍需産業と結託したロボットの軍事利用のための自衛隊の実験部隊。紛争国中東某国に無理やり派遣され見たのは同じようなロボット兵器だった。ヒロインはその操縦者。主人公と謎の超能力で意志疎通する。どうもこの軍需産業の創業一家にはロボットの駆動機構、なぜか能舞台の舞から発現する（この表現は見事）エネルギーなど、古来からの秘密があるらしい。このあたり、五木寛之「風の王国」を参考図書にしていただきたい。
操縦者はロボットの背中にあるサドルにまたがって操縦する。上からカバーがおりてきて身動きもままならない。歩く棺桶。興奮しすぎると外部指揮車の指示で鎮静剤が自動的にプシュー。おいおいアブナイゼ。
タイトル曲で「なんじゃこのわからん発音の英語は？」と思っていたワタシは当時音楽シーンからズッポリ取り残されていたのでした。この歌い方（今年ワタクシ発見しました）間違いなくビヨークであります。そう考えると実にンまい。んでもってこの作品コンセプトが日本の「舞」。イントロは龍笛。サビの部分には「餓~沙~羅~のオニはぁ~」と地謡（じうたい、能の舞の伴奏合唱でんな。もちろん古典ではこんなフシはなく創作のオリジナル）が入るという超オリエンタル。私はここに種とも子の一つの完成形を見ました（？）。
脇役が強烈なのに主役２人がボソボソとしゃべってダイコンなのと、階級で呼び合う同僚達がなかなか覚えられないのが難点。印象に残らない。が今見ると当時の「コメ不作・食糧危機」「湾岸戦争」を色濃く取り込んだ近未来戦争物ロボットアニメである。いやいやアブナイ時代だったねぇ。当時のバブルの異常さを良く予見していて、確かに終わり方の唐突さとわけわからなさはエヴァの影響も感じるがまとまってる方じゃないか？

どうしてエヴァと比較されがちなガサラキだが、内容は大きく異なる。

共通項みたいなものもあるが、それはあくまで一部のキャラ、一部の演出技法のみ。

リアルロボットアニメとしては史上最も「リアル」な部類に入るだろう。

ＴＡは今日明日にでも出てきておかしくない完全な「武装兵器」であり、人類が特殊な敵に対抗する為に作った「エヴァ」とは根本的に異なる。

さらに世界観も現代の世界情勢と殆ど同じで日本の情勢も非常に似通っている。

セカンドインパクトで世界全体が異質なものへと変貌を遂げたエヴァの世界観とは全然違う。

これほど現実味のあるアニメーションは他に類をみない。

序盤で展開される自衛隊派兵を巡る違憲問題騒動から、穀物モラトリアム、クーデター計画、自衛隊将校の決起、カリスマ憂国士西田啓、単なるロボットものではなく政治ドラマとしても楽しめる奥の深い作品。

ただ、視聴対象は限定されがちなのが悔やまれる。

おそらく本来のアニメ視聴者である幼児〜中高生は勿論、成人層、主婦やＯＬも日曜の朝ならテレビをつけそうだが、今の日本で政治ドラマに関心を寄せる会社員ＯＬがどれほどいようか？これこそ憂いの極み！

この作品はもっと流行るべきだ！
