   1998年に放送され絶大な支持を受けたSFハードボイルドアニメーション。2071年、ワープ航法が実用化されている時代の太陽系を舞台に、無法者や犯罪者を追うカウボーイ＝賞金稼ぎコンビのスパイクとジェット、女賞金稼ぎフェイ、天才少女ハッカーのエド、そして犬のアイン、宇宙船ビバップ号で行動を共にする彼ら一行の活躍を描く。
   各話ごとに彼らが追う賞金首たちのドラマを中心に1話完結で展開しつつ、全体を通してはそれぞれの背景に迫る物語が進行、軽いコメディタッチからシリアスまで、幅広くも統一感のある引き締まった出来となっている。また、TVシリーズ全26話のほか、22話と23話の間に位置する内容の劇場用長編が放送後に製作されており、あえて後日談にしなかったところにクリエイターの潔さを感じさせる。（田中　元）

この巻収録の「カウボーイ・ファンク」はかなり面白いです。
いつもどおりのテンポの良さ、音楽のすばらしさを保ったまま、
「笑い」にチャレンジしたある種の番外編です。
これを見てあなたもビバップの世界にどっぷりはまってください。
笑えます！

このDVDに収録されている3話は、本当に話の内容の方向性がバラバラで（良い意味で）、「COWBOY BEBOP」という作品の面白さがわかる1枚だと思う。
特に「カウボーイ・ファンク」は私も大好きな話で、何度見ても笑ってしまう。
あまりにもツッコミどころ満載なキャラの出現に、ビバップ号のメンバーも若干おもしろい方向に壊れている。

「笑える」という意味では、「COWBOY BEBOP」全話の中でも一、二位を争うのではないだろうか。

一方「ハード・ラック・ウーマン」は、見終わった後にしんみりとした気持ちになる（と思う）。
最終話に向けて、ビバップ号メンバーのそれぞれの道が描かれた話。

私にとっては多少予想外の展開だったけれど、それでも決して「なんでこんな結末にしたの？」とは責める気になれない。
うまく言い表せないけど、「あ、そうなんだ」と納得してしまう感じ。
キャラクターに愛着があったせいか、少し涙ぐんでしまった。

「ブレイン・スクラッチ」は上に書いた2話とはまた違う感じの話なので、3話見ると結構満足感があると思う。

この作品をはじめてみたのは02年毎日放送での再放送でした。
はじめて見たときこんなにもかっこよくおもしろいアニメがなぜ前から脚光を浴びなかったのか疑問に思いました。ここまで全話完璧に施されたアニメはファーストルパン以来の出来ではないのかと私は思います。なんせテレビ東京では98年頃金曜の18時に数話しか放送されていなかったんだから当時わかるわけなかった・・・（ＷＯＷＯＷはとってないし・・・）テレビ東京など地上波局は視聴率だけで作品を判断して作品そのものの出来に対しては見向きもしてないのではないかとおもいます。さらに監督の渡辺信一郎さんはカウボーイビバップにつづき、
監督最新作サムライチャンプルーも地上波を打ち切りにされたそうで、
渡辺監督は運がなさすぎるのでしょうか？それとも地上波に嫌われているとか・・・
