英国NO１バンドという自らを振り返るアグレッシブな6thアルバム。
2.Ocean Spray　はジェイムスが作詞を手がけた曲、1stからのマニックス・リスナーとしてこの曲はベスト５に入る傑作。詞はジェイムスのお母さんが亡くなった事が触れられた曲なので深い悲しみに満ちているが、凄く良い曲。大好きです。3.Intravenous Agnostic　と6.The Year Of Purification　の疾走感はたまらなくカッコ良い!!!
7.Wattsville Blues　はニッキーが作曲＆リードヴォーカル。
15.Baby Elianはかのエリアン少年についての曲・・・と４枚目から聴かなくなってなっていた人にも聴いて貰いたいです。
*この日本盤には、ミレニアム・凱旋ライブが音源のボーナストラック「the　masses　against　the　classes」が入っています。

４ｔｈアルバムから聴かなくなってしまった人、 多いと思いますが、このアルバムは初期の頃を彷彿させるかっこいい曲がいっぱいです。絶対聴かないと損ですよ！

前作、前々作でイギリスの国民的バンドとなった彼らの渾身の５thアルバム。
「ホーリー･バイブル」に代表されるようにもともと彼らはアグレッシヴで攻撃的なギターサウンドに、ポリティカルで難解な歌詞とアティテュードが代名詞だった。そしてブリットポップという時代の後押しもあり大成功を収め一躍スターダムにのし上がったのだが、果たして彼らは「英国随一のロックバンド」というポジションを素直に受け止めていただろうか？地元ウェールズ凱旋で数万という大観衆の目の前に大喝采をあびてどう思っただろうか？きっと「俺達ってこんな皆に好かれるバンドだったっけ？」と違和感を覚えたに違いない。このアルバムには初期の彼らの攻撃性と政治性、そして最近作の問答無用のポップネスが絶妙なバランスで溶け合った作品だ。傑作。ただひとつだけ苦言を･･･曲数が多すぎ。オープニングから８曲目あたりまでは完璧なのだが終盤に少しだけダレる感が･･･もう少しコンパクトになれば個人的年間ベストアルバムベスト５入りは間違いなかったんだが･･･惜しい！でもいい作品です。
