生ギターによる柔らかいタッチのボサ・ノヴァ風インストゥルメンタルで始まる、3年ぶりのオリジナル・アルバム。ここ数年の片腕的存在であるサイモン・クライミーを再び共同制作に迎え、インプレッションズやビリー・プレストンといったベテランが脇を固め、スティーヴィー・ワンダー(8)やジェイムス・テイラー(11)などのカヴァーが半数を占めるこの作品。サウンド・スタイルはブルースやR&B、ソウルと多彩だが、全体の印象は“21世紀版レイドバック・サウンド”といった感じ。パワフルにギターを掻き鳴らしても、その伸びやかなトーンから伝わってくるのは現在の彼の満ち足りた表情であり、深みのある渋いヴォーカルとの相乗効果によって、滋味豊かな音世界が醸成されている。ミュージシャンとして実り多き90年代に獲得した余裕や自信を裏付けに、自然体のなかから滲み出る寛いだ雰囲気。これこそ、正真正銘のレイドバックなのだ。 (飯塚達弘) --- 2001年04月号

クラプトンが子供の頃に音楽も含めてたくさんの影響を受けたという、今は亡き叔父のために作った一枚。「彼がいなければ今の僕もいない」とまで言うほどの存在であった叔父さんのためだけあって、特別な思いが込められた作品と言えます。ボサノバ調の１曲目で新しい彼の一面をかいま見たかと思えば、泥臭いオールドブルースの２曲目ではクラプトンパワーが１００％全開しているなど、彼の持つ豊かなバリエーションが全体を通して存分に発揮されてます。クラプトンは過去のアーティストではなく現在進行形であることをはっきりと証明した作品です。充実著しい現在（いま）のクラプトンを存分に堪能あれ！

ある時はホワイト・ブルースの腕利きギタリスト、ある時はブルース・ロックの先駆者、ある時はサザンロックに活路を見いだし、またある時はレゲエ好き、フィル・コリンズと組んだり、Ｒ＆Ｂ風なものもやり、アコースティックありーの、ブルースをカバーしーの・・・　名盤も数々生みだしたがいったい何がやりたいんだ？と、いうのがクラプトンのオイラの感想です。このアルバムは一般的には超名盤にあげられることはないでしょうが、オイラ的にはベストです。レイラや４６１より好きです。どこか苦悩の影を引きずったクラプトンが、とりあえずやっちゃおうか！、とあまり深く考えずつくったようなアルバムです。もちろん悪い意味でなく。１曲目なんてホロリときます。そうだよ、クラプトンはこーゆー優しい男なんだよ！つっかかるように歌ってるクラプトンは無理してるんだよ（わかりませんが）。ギターのほうも納得。妙にブルース意識していないのが、かえって伸び伸びとした演奏になって、これまたベストのプレイだと思います。ＥＣが好きなら必ず聴いてほしい好盤です！
