5.0 out of 5 stars 全てのDeliusファンが持つべきCD, 2009/9/1
ディーリアスの擁護者であり偉大なるアマチュア、
トーマスビーチャムの溺愛する作品を集めたもの。
ビーチャムの活躍はディーリアスの生前から
１９６１年までに及び録音もSP録音からモノラル、ステレオと
全ての時代にまたがっていた。
彼は１９５０年代にディーリアスの主要作品の録音を終えていた。
しかし、それらは全てモノラル録音だった為、
ビーチャムは晩年に思い直したように英EMIに新たにディーリアスの
作品を録音し始めた。完成度にこだわり何度もチャレンジした
「日没の歌」、自身で改訂したフロリダ組曲、コンサートで何度も
取上げた「丘を越えてはるかに」などである。
「アパラチア」「海流」「北国のスケッチ」「パリ」は間に合わず
結局完成せずに終わったのだが（１９６１年ビーチャム没）
彼が意思をこめて録音していた時代の録音が全てモノラル盤かSP盤
でのものだったので惜しいことだ。
それこそEMIへの録音は最後の気力を絞っての録音だったのだろう。
おかげでこの貴重な録音が我々に残ったのだ。
その中でも特に聞きやすいものを詰め込んだのがこのCD。
【ブリッグの定期市】はその中でも永遠の名演。
【夏の夕べ】、【フェ二モアとゲルダ間奏曲】、【川の上の夏の夜】、
【イルメリン前奏曲】などそれこそ手の内に入った演奏ばかり。
これ以外にも素敵な演奏が多い。
EMIのイギリス作曲家シリーズで出ているもう一枚の宝物が
【フロリダ組曲】、【日没の歌】、【丘を越えてはるかに】などが、
詰まった1枚。
これらはことにビーチャムが愛奏したものばかり。
