まず、フリオ・キリコのドラミングに驚かされます。この人はたこみたいに手が八本ぐらいあるのではと思うほど、手数、足数がすごいのです。ビル・ブラッフォードがかすむくらいのテクニシャンなのです。曲も良いのですが、演奏がすごいだけにもう少しメロディアスな曲もあれば、もっと長続きしたバンドだったのではないでしょうか。ロックが英米だけのものではなく聞きたい世界が広がります。

ユーロプログレに位置するバンド。ジャズロックつう感じですね。かなりいい緊張感があります。メロトロンもじゃかじゃか出てきます。

まだまだかたにはまらない感じのやつですね。欧州の気品と音楽性が色濃く出ています。イタリアのバンドはいいのが多いですね。

たまりません。

74年作。イタリアのプログレ・ジャズロックバンドarti+mestieriの1st。超絶技巧のジャズロックと、凡百のシンフォニックロックが束になってもかなわない叙情性とを同時に実現し、なおかつハードロックとしての勢い・カッコよさまであわせ持つ…嘘みたいな傑作。マハヴィシュヌオーケストラ、RTFなどの影響下のジャズロックを基盤に、イタリアらしいクラシカルで美しいメロディをこぼれ落ちんばかりに注ぎ込み、最後にプログレ様式美みたいなものをひとすくい加えた感じ。凄まじい手数でロールしまくるドラム、大胆かつ堅実に曲を支えるベース、空間を豊かに色づけるメロトロン・ピアノ・ムーグ・オルガン等のキーボードの上、バイオリン・サックス・クラリネット・ギターが目の醒めるような鮮やかさでユニゾンを決めまくって飛び交う。華麗、しなやかなプレイの連続。キリコのドラムが有名だが、彼以外も皆凄い…が、テクうんぬんは当然のことであり、本当の凄さは、その超絶な演奏が集まって、まるで1つの美しい歌声のようになること。これはもう奇跡だ。賛辞の言葉を書き始めたら、きりがない。マハヴィシュヌのような強靭なジャズロックアンサンブルがつむじ風のように駆ける…と同時にメロトロンがベタベタに涙を誘う…そんな豪華な取り合わせをためらいもなくやってしまう。しかも、そこにあざとさを全く感じさせないのが凄い。こましゃくれて斜に構えた者には不可能、イタリア人にしかできない芸当のようにも思う。本作は、ジャズロック・フュージョンといったものへのイタリア人としての回答の1つなのかもしれない。「ヨーロッパ人が無理して黒人のまねをしたってダメだし、そもそもそんなことする必要はないのさ」と言っているような作品だとも思う。聞き終わって、ああ、音楽が好きでよかった…そんな風にすら思える超名盤。
