4.0 out of 5 stars 技術よりも、「歌っているギター｣を目指しているギタリスト, 2005/1/7
ニール・ザザは、所謂「イングヴェイ系早弾きギタリスト」としてデビューしましたが、メロディアスな良い曲を書くものの、技術的には御世辞にも上手いとは言い難いギタリストでした。デビュー作での、右手と左手の全く噛み合っていない早弾きの連打は、聞いていて辛いものがありました。

彼自身もそれを感じていたのでしょうか、2作目にあたる本作では、テクニックよりも曲作りや美しいフレージングを重視して作られており、それが大成功しています。

どの曲も、素朴ながら美しいメロディーを中心に作られており、聞いていて非常にリラックス出来ます。1曲目の「Everything I Should Have Said・・」の映画音楽のような壮大さには圧倒されますし、11曲目の「I'm Allright」の美しいイントロは、一度聞いたら忘れないでしょう。

テクニックをひけらかすギターインスト作品は多いですが、このアルバムは、聞いていて心が和める数少ないギターインスト作品だと思います。

日本ではあまりメジャーではない早弾き系のギタリストです。デビュー当時は、音質も悪く、自身のやりたい事が出来るレベルに技術が付いて行っていないと言う状態でした。しかし、メロディーセンスは素晴しい物があります。
　この作品では、ZAZAの売りである早弾き等が全然ありません。曲自体も？？？な物が多く、最初に手を出す作品ではないと思います。（I'm Alrightは、ぱっと聞いて素晴しい曲だと思いますが）ですから、初めてNeil Zazaと言うギタリストの作品を買うなら他の作品の方が無難でしょう。
　けれど、長年Neilの作品を聞き込んできた人にとっては、聞けば聞くほど味のある作品だとも思います。個人的には、好きなアルバムです。

アメリカのテクニカル系ギタリストNeil Zaza（ニール・ザザ）による1996年の作品です。Neil Zazaの知名度は日本ではあまり高くないようですが、数多いるテクニカル系ギタリストの中で、テクニック至上主義というよりも比較的エモーショナルなプレイを身上としているプレイヤーです。

全体としてはテクニック＆楽曲とも水準以上のものを感じますし、Zazaお得意の煽情的なフレーズもふんだんに聴けます。徐々に高めていく技は日本人好みのテイストをもっているとも言えます。でも、全体を通して聴くと、いま一歩突き抜けてガツンとくるものが感じられないのも事実です。やや辛口ですが、そんな決定打に欠けるあたりがＡ級とＢ級の差ではないでしょうか。
