エキゾチックという一言では終わってはいけない名盤。
ここには、ありとあらゆる音楽を耳にした若き日の細野氏の意欲的な音楽的試行が繰り広げられている。
私見になりますが、この頃の彼ら、はっぴいえんど系の人たちはまだ、商業的に評価は冷遇されていた時代。その中で世間が少しだけ、「商業」フォークソングの次にティンパンアレイの７th９thコードを多用した音楽に目を向け始めた。そしてそこからニューミュージックと呼ばれる範疇が生まれるまでに至るには、やはり細野氏松任谷氏らティンパンアレーのバックでアルバム３枚出すことになる荒井由実のブレークを待っていた時代。

そんな時代に、マーティン・デニー（YMOの"FIRE CRACKER"のオリジナル演奏者）やジャマイカ（カリプソ、スカ）やビギンなど、ありとあらゆるリズムや音楽に断片を取材して独特の感性で紡ぎ合わせた細野ワールドを繰り広げた問題作といえます。

今でこそ、ワールドミュージックというくくりで簡単に音源を求められますがこの当時はまさに新鮮でした。

日本のＰＯＰシーンをひも解く上で欠かせない必聴盤ですよ。これを聞いて元ネタ探しをするのもよし。（POMPOM蒸気は”SEA　CRUISE”のナイスなアンサーソングって思ってるのは僕だけ？）

さあ、思わず微笑んでしまう細野流ワールドミュージックの洋行へ出かけましょう。

他の方同様に最初聴いたときはこの音楽の良さがまったく分からず，奇抜さだけを感じていました．
YMOから入ってこのCDにたどり着いたので，坂本氏の音楽の方が耳障りがよく優れているとすら感じていました．

しかし，それが全くの間違いだと分かったのはこの音楽に出会ってから5年後のことでした．

ideaが斬新で，異なるジャンルの音楽をチャンプルにしているにも関わらず構成がまとまって美しく，そして何回聴いても飽きない．

オリジナルは70年代のreleaseですが，これは過去の音楽ではなく，現在に至るまでずっと最先端の音楽であると認識しました．
古びないというのは多くの優れた芸術が持つ共通の特徴なのでしょう．

かつて自分がそうであったように，何年後かには必ず色あせる大衆音楽を良いと思っている人にはこの音楽の良さは分かりません．

CD版が復刻されていたのですね。昔、テープに録音して聴いていました。最近、箱の中を整理していたら出てきたので、小さなカセットデッキで聴きましたが、しっかり、国籍不明の怪しいムードに再び酔い、直ぐに購入致しました。これは、時代を超えた名盤ですね。「八木康夫」さんの、アートワークも素敵です。
