３期に渡りリリースされているサザンバラード集の一番初期にあたるのがこのＣＤだ。それぞれ２枚づつで計６枚、それもバラードだけに限定しているにも関わらずこの物量は、単なる活動期の長さと曲の多さだけの問題でもなさそうだ。サザンの中でも最も人気があるジャンルでもあり、ある意味サザンらしさを感じる事ができ、独特の一ジャンルを確立している「サザンバラード」だからこそのこの膨大なリリースに繋がったのだと思う。
勿論この収録曲全てがお気に入りという訳では無いが、サザン特有のサウンドと桑田の非凡でインパクトのあるボーカルは一貫しているわけで、ふとした瞬間で自然と通しで聞いてみたくなるアルバムでもある。季節はどうであれ、妙に海を感じたい時に手を取るがこれだったりする。「Ｏｈ！クラウディア」等の曲は今更語るまでも無い名バラードだが、何度聞いてもその素晴らしさが褪せることは無い。他に高田みずえ「私はピアノ」研ナオコ「夏をあきらめて」等の他歌手提供曲も収録されているが、サザンのボーカルによってまた新たに聞いているような新鮮な楽しみが生まれる。

７０年代後期８０年代初期の収録曲だが、それ程古さを感じないのはサザンが時代に影響されない曲作りをしてたせいなのかと、思う事もしばしば。

　初期のサザンのバラード集だが、はっきり言ってどれも名曲である。後にバラッド２　３とでているが、全体の完成度はこのアルバムには及ばない。初期の曲なので、音自体は非常にシンプルであるが、シンプルであるが故、天性の桑田のボーカル（このころが一番良いのでは？）がすばらしく心に響く。また、原坊のボーカル、コーラスとも最高である。　絶対に聴くべし！
