みゆき健在、である。健在すぎて、2000年現在の僕にはフィットしない箇所も少なからず存在するが、まずは1年8ヵ月ぶりのカムバック、無難な立ち上がりと言っていいだろう。フィットしないというのは、たとえば過剰なギター・ソロや“本格的”なコーラスなど、“物語性”の強調を意図する仕掛けなわけだが、「やりすぎだよ」と鼻白みつつも最後には盛大な拍手を贈りたくなってしまうのは、ひとえに彼女の“物語り力”によるもの。比喩を巧みにちりばめた抽象的な作風に立ち返ったことが成功しているのである。 (平野敬三) --- 2000年08月号

「プロジェクトＸ」は大好きな番組でしたが、
この「地上の星」と「ヘッドライト・テールライト」という２つの
名曲に恵まれたからこそ、あれだけ感動的な番組になったのはないでしょうか。

どちらの曲も、聴いていると別世界に引き込まれたような感じになり、
歌で描かれている広大な世界の景色が頭に浮かんできます。

光があたっていなくても、日々一生懸命生きている人たち。
そういう隠れたヒーローたちへの最高の応援歌だと思います。

『プロジェクトX』で紹介された数々のストーリー。
そのひとつひとつの物語を、完成度の高い作品に仕上げるのに
大きな役割を担ったのがこの曲であろう。
果たして他にどんな曲がこれほどの効果を生み出せるだろうか！

オープニング曲での緊張の高まり、そしてエンディング曲の
すべてを包み込むような優しさ。２つの曲の絶妙なバランスに

中島みゆきの声の持つ独特な雰囲気が加味された。

何度も挫折し、くじけそうになり諦めそうになっても...
執拗な努力、必ず成し遂げるという信念を持ち続け、
達成という名のゴールを目指す人々に
この曲は熱いエールを贈っていると思う。

NHK「プロジェクトX」の主題歌ということで出されたシングル。番組は見てなかったけれどどんな風にみゆきさんの曲が使われてるか気になって番組を観出してびっくり！
番組も良いけれど相乗効果というやつでみゆきさんの曲が心に染み入ってくる。中島みゆきを知らなくても聴いてみる価値はある！！
