最初に聴いたときはその完成度、創り上げられた世界観に正直にビックリしました。最近はわりとメジャーとインディーズの垣根はないですけれど、このアルバムが発売された当時は本当にインディーズなの？？と・・・。ｔｅｔｓｕさんが言われていましたが、このアルバムが一番ベース難しいらしいです。

言われてみれば納得。複雑に絡み合う音と今とは歌唱法も違い、楽器の一部のように溶け合うｈｙｄｅの唄声。そしてこの頃はまだ歌詞に「私」とｈｙｄｅが書いているんですよね（時期によって「私」→「僕」→「俺」とラルクがポップになってゆくのと比例して変わっていきますが）。そんな訳で本当に幻想的な神々しささえ漂うこの作品。イントロが今よりかなり長いものが多いのですが、それがとても綺麗なメロディラインなんです。イントロだけでも聴く価値あり！！と言ってしまっていいくらいに綺麗です。個人的には９曲目の「ａｓ　ｉｆ　~」のイントロ。これはバンドでこんなに綺麗なイントロは聴いた事ないってくらい美しすぎて感動しました。またこの頃はドラムも違うので、現在のラルクとはかなり違いますが、それでもラルクの原点のこのアルバムは聴いてみる価値は十分にあります☆☆★☆☆

この作品は、本当に初期の彼らの傑作だと思います。インディーズでこれを超える作品は、私の中では未だに出会っていません。全曲名曲ですね。
さた、今回は、リマスター盤の方では詳しく書けなかったこの作品の特徴を述べたいと思います。まず、音楽の世界観ですが、現在の彼らとは、１８０度違います。音が今の彼らの作り出す、ポップ色がほとんど（全然って言って良いほど）ありません。幻想的で、ノスタルジックでそれで、哀愁漂うな世界観です。そして、詞の世界観も音と同じように、まさに幻想的でそして、美しく、儚い、切ない世界観を醸し出すような詞です。そして、彼らの外見、今の彼ら（特に、tetsuさん）が言われるのを嫌っている、ヴィジュアル系の格好です、しかもそのヴィジュアルが美しく、格好いいです。特にhydeさん、貴方、本当に男性ですか？（笑）と思うくらい美しく、綺麗な、とてもセンスの良いヴィジュアルです。全体的に言うと、今の彼らとは別人だと、私は思っています。
そして、このアルバムのお勧めはと言うと、全曲なのですが、その中でもお気に入りが、3. Taste of love 、ダークな歌詞と、重い歪むベース音が特徴的な曲です。4. Entichers とにかく不思議な感じの曲です。途中ドラムソロになる所があるのですが、そこがお気に入りです。5. Floods of tears は、とにかく切ない歌詞です。最後にオルゴールの音色が響くのが、これまた儚いです。6. Dune は、彼らの初期の名曲と言われているように、詞の世界観とhydeさんの美しい歌声と楽器隊の演奏が上手く絡み合った美しい名曲です。9. As it in a dream は個人的に最高の（ラルク史上）超名曲だと思います。聴いた人にしか分からない、曲だと思います。
最後に、この作品は、ラルクの中でも好き嫌いが分かれる、アルバムだと思いますが、１回きいただけで、けっして悪く評価しないでください。何回も何回もききこむ必要のある、馴れが必要な作品だと思いますから。

ボーカルの表現に硬さは残るものの、インディーズであることが信じられないくらい完成度の高いアルバム。
9曲目に収録されている「As if in a dream」を、hyde(Vo)が「未だにこれを越す曲が作れない」と語っているのも頷ける。

後に、S.O.A.P.(ラルクとは別にken(Gt)が組んでいるKen、Sakura、Einの3ピースバンド）でのインタビューで、kenは「sakuraが面白いドラムを叩いてたのはDUNEだけ」といったニュアンスの発言をしていたが、S.O.A.P.でのsakuraのプレイスタイルに近いのは、他のどのアルバムでもなく、このDUNEだろう。ライドシンバルやタムを多用した華麗なドラミングは必聴である。

PSYCHOSONIC SHAKE（”精神的に人の心の奥をくすぐる”の意でtetsuが考案）を掲げていた初期ラルクの世界観は、よりディープでダーク。
ラルクに対して明るいイメージを抱いている人はショックを受けてしまうかもしれない。
3枚同時発売の中では「HONEY」より「花葬」や「浸食」が好きだという人に聴いてほしいアルバム。
