「手ごたえのない愛」や「君さえいれば」などのどちらかといえばDEENのシングルの中でもギターが前に押し出されたRock色の強い曲が収録されているので、アルバム全体がそうかというと違ってとてもバランスが取れているアルバムです。落ち着いたバラードやスピード感のある曲、どれをとってもDEENの個性が爆発していると思います。メロディーも印象的でメンバーの作曲センスも凄いなと思わせてくれます。

　1曲目は｢ONE DAY｣。2曲目の｢love me｣は12thの｢君がいない夏｣のC/W。3曲目の｢手ごたえのない愛｣は16thシングル。DEENではかなりのハードなナンバー。この年この曲でＭステに出演。ちなみにC/Wの｢愛しい人｣は失恋の歌。4曲目は｢GRAVITY｣。数少ないDEENの作曲。5曲目は｢VOYAGE｣。池森秀一（Vo）の声が壮大な航海を彷彿させ迫力大。6曲目は｢Guilty〜消えることのない罪〜｣。7曲目は｢逢いにゆくよ｣。8曲目は｢眠ったままの情熱｣。へこんでる人は元気でます！宇津本直紀（Dr）もお気に入りの一曲！9曲目の｢さよなら｣、田川伸治（G）の作曲。切ないナンバー、切ないギター。10曲目｢君さえいれば｣はBMG移籍初15thシングル。最新セルフカバーアルバム｢キセキ｣でカバーされた。11曲目は｢君のいないholiday｣。12曲目は｢A day in my life｣。アカペラです。山根公路(key)のソプラノボイスがたまらない。3，10曲目は作詞作曲は小松未歩。それ以外の作詞は池森氏が書いている。　｢The DAY｣はDEENの新境地を切り開いた1枚。個人的にひとつの完成形、ひとつの区切りとなった作品。

前作「I wish」より約２年ぶりのリリースとなったDEEN３枚目のオリジナルアルバムです。レコード会社移籍第一弾ということもあって、前２作とは劇的な変化を遂げた内容になっています。

収録シングルは#3と#10の２枚だけ。シングルやタイアップ曲をたくさん詰め込んだ「大作志向」のアルバムではありません。やや大人しめのアレンジがなされた楽曲が多く、それが上記（↑CDジャーナル）のような「優等生的で面白味に欠ける」ってぇ評価を招いているようです（残念です）。

このアルバムのコンセプトは、メンバー自身が語るところによると「地球と日常」。
地球を"大きな船"と見立てた#5「VOYAGE」を中心として、人々の様々な日常を綴った楽曲が寄り集まった構成となっています。なるほど聴いてみると#5が「核」で#1#12が「極」、それらを含めた一曲一曲が「日常」か。

どこにでもあるような風景、誰にでも起こりうる出来事。そんな一つ一つの「The DAY」を乗っけて、今日も地球は静かに回る。…DEENの繊細な主張が聞こえる、佳作アルバムだと思います。

あと、ジャケ写買いした女性ファンも多数？（笑）
