“326”とのコラボレーションによるシングル(「あの紙ヒコーキくもり空わって」など)のイメージもあって、“メッセージを歌うフォーク・デュオ”という印象が強い19なのだが、このセカンド・アルバムを聴けば、そんな認識が完全な誤りであることがわかるだろう。生まれ育った故郷を旅立つふたりの姿をノスタルジックに描いた「『果てのない道』」、死んだ祖父への想いを綴った「熊じいちゃん」。とめどなく襲ってくる絶望感をテーマにした「僕の歌とあなたの歌」。ここには、人が生きていくうえで誰もが必ず体験し、乗り越えなくてはならないすべての出来事と感情が真っ直ぐに刻まれているのだ。確かに彼らの歌詞は純粋すぎるかもしれない。「熱すぎて、うざい」という批判もあるだろう。しかし、どこまでも自分に真摯であろうとする彼らの姿勢は、「どうせ何も変わんないっしょ」とか言って結果的にこの汚くてデタラメな社会を肯定してることに気づかないバカよりも、100倍カッコイイ、と思う。 (森朋之) --- 2000年08月号
