もはやスウェードに耽美だとか退廃的などという形容詞はそぐわない。しかしひたすら美しい。形骸化したロックをダンス・ミュージックで甦らせるという離れ業を成し遂げた約3年ぶりの4枚目は彼らの最高傑作との呼び声も高し。14は日本盤のみのボーナス。

スウェードをあえて９０sのグラムロックと言うなら、このアルバムが一番その表現に近いと思う。
親しみやすくて無機質なメロディと人工的な世界。
ハイテンションでプラスチックでグラマラスな音楽の中にちょっと行き過ぎた寂しさを感じてしまうのも事実。
バンドの狙いと言えば全くそのとおりで、タイトルどおりの”ヘッド・ミュージック”と言う感じ。

作品自体はポップな毒々しいパーティーナンバーで楽しめます。

以前に比べて毒が薄くなってかなり聴きやすくなったが、相変わらずSuedeらしいポップナンバーやバラードは健在なのでファンとしては大満足です。
なお、特にオススメなのが「everything will flow」。体の芯まで響き渡るようなバラードの名曲です。

「Coming Up」以降のポップな路線を推し進めた結果、suedeはリズムに
自覚的になり、その結果生まれたのがこの作品だった。
ただ、このアルバムはダンス･ミュージックではない。
あくまでも脳内で楽しむ「head music」だ。
メロディーは相変わらず美しく、ブレットの声も健在だ。
歌詞が現実的になった、とも言われたが、それは音の次でしかない。

やや「変わった」というリズムの面で不完全な面もあるが、
これはこれで充分楽しめる。
