レビューの前に、この曲を聴いて改めて思ったことは、氷室の描く世界は男の背中だということ。ベッドで女に背を向けたときの孤独の背中であり、バイクに跨り風を切るときの緊張の背中であり、海に佇む静寂の背中であり、或いは家族にもみせない誇りの背中なのだ。鳴っているギターもピアノも、どこまでもピュアな闇だ。それをダンディズムと一言で割り切るにはもったいなく、ひとつひとつの曲に、一個の男のリアリズムが溢れている。

そしてその世界観を男の背中だというなら、実際にそれを目に見えるかたちでいうなら竹ノ内豊や佐藤浩市、真田広之、豊川悦司、本木雅弘らの演技だ。或いは舘ひろし、渡辺謙、緒方拳でもいい。孤独の似合う役者だ。小説で言うなら「新宿鮫」などのハードボイルド作品。妻夫木や木村拓哉のような子供っぽい演技ではない。彼らの表現する男らしさに、JPOPの中では最も氷室の声と曲が表現するところが一致する。矢沢ではない。スタイリッシュさと甘美さと哀愁と孤独さと、そして弱さをも感じさせるのは氷室しかいない。

そして「ダイヤモンドダスト」も大人の男の強さと裏腹の弱みとピュアさに貫かれている。そして、長い孤独との闘いの後に辿り着いた、愛情の温かさに溢れ、男ならひっそりと心に染みてくる曲なのだ。凍てついた心も体もゆっくりと溶けてゆく感覚というのは、ちょうど竹ノ内豊が水の中にゆっくり沈んでゆく映像にも表れ、主題歌とドラマもしっかり合っていた。

「ずっとLovin' You お前を愛することが、生きること、輝くこと」
この歌詞が映える楽曲だと思います。
また、彼にしか歌えない名曲だと名言できます。

大切な人ができた人、もうすぐ結婚しようかなぁ〜なんて思っている人、歌詞をよく読んでじっくりこの曲を聴いてみてもいいと思います。

余談ですが、カップリングの「Silent Blue」もシングルバージョンで、アルバム「MELLOW」とは違うアレンジにも注目してください。
