何と爽快なロックンロール・アルバムだろう！！

＃１「ハート・オヴ・ダークネス」を聴いて、映画『ロッキー・４』の主題歌・サヴァイヴァーの「バーニン・ハート」っぽいなあ…と思ってたら、ライナー・ノーツに、サヴァイヴァーの元ギタリスト・ジム・ピートリックというヒトがこのアルバムに参加しているとのこと。なるほどなあ…。

＃２「セイ・イット・エイント・ソー」以降は怒涛の様に、アップテンポでメロディアスな８ビートが続く（＃３「ノー・オーディナリー・ミラクル」＃７「サイレントリー」＃８「ビフォア・ユア・アイズ」といったバラードと、ロバート・フリップ＆イアン・マクドナルドとの共演・叙情的なインスト、＃５「エスケイプ」を挟むが）。

ちょっと驚いたのは、＃１０「リアル・ワールド」では、アコギ一本とブルース・ハープでの演奏が聴ける。
ライナー・ノーツによると、この曲はリンゴ・スターとの共作らしく、ブルース・ハープを吹いているのは、スティーヴ・ハケット。
…そう、元ジェネシスのギタリスト、スティーヴ・ハケットだ！！
ジョン・ウェットンの声質のお陰だろう、こんなバッキングでも全然泥臭く聴こえない。

ボーナス・トラックの＃１１「ラヴ・イズ」、＃１２「スペース・アンド・タイム」までもが全開でロケンロールしている。

クリムゾン・ファン…下手したらＡＳＩＡファンまでをも裏切りそうな、それはもうポップでロックンロールなアルバムだ。
下世話なハード・ロックじゃなく、洗練された、メロディアスなロックンロールだ。

…まあ、あんまし深く考えず聴かれる事をお勧めする。
“ロックンロール・アルバムです”とだけ言っておこう。
それはもう、全曲通して気持ち良いアルバムなんやから…。

4.0 out of 5 stars ウェットンのソロに「エイジア」を期待するファンはこれを聴け！！, 2004/9/3
　本人も「エイジア」を意識したと公言する、ジョン・ウェットンのソロ作。エイジアは、ウェットンの声域でも一番高いキーを使うのが特徴であるが、まさにそういう作りになっている。メロディーも「渋さ」よりは「甘さ」を強調。美しい音色のシンセも「エイジアです」という雰囲気を盛り上げる。

　まぁ、バッキングの作り手が、ダウンズでなくウェットン自身なので、多少ラインが違うが、大体ファンが期待するエイジア・サウンドに仕上がっていると思う。曲のレベルは一歩及ばないが、イメージとしては「ALPHA」に近い。オリジナル・エイジア復活を熱望するファンは、これを聴いて欲求不満を解消してくれ！！　80％くらいは期待に応えてくれるはず。

ヴォイスメール、アークエンジェルの続編として聞くと、少々軽すぎるかもしれない。但し、エイジアが好きな人はすんなり入り込めると思う。華麗なるプログレ遍歴を持つウェットンではあるが、そういう先入観を捨てて、現代ポップヴォーカリストの軽い鼻歌程度の作品として聞いていただきたい一枚です。
