ジャケ、変です。なんとかならないものか。少なくともエヴァンスがインド音楽に傾斜し、タブラ、踊るマハラジャとともに新境地を開いた、などいう内容では無い、断じて無い。こんな気持ちの悪いジャケットに何故なってしまったのか？
それはさておき、エヴァンスのシンフォニーオーケストラとの競演といえばワタクシのライブラリーではFrom Left To Rightに代表されるムーディな音楽がイメージできるが、この変なジャケのアルバムはもっとモダンでクール。キースジャレットのアーバージーナでハービーハンコックがピアノを弾いてるような（う~んうまくたとえられん）、とにかくエヴァンスが決してコンサバなピアニストではなく、いまだに追従者の多いモダニストであることを再認識させてくれる。そいつは作編曲のクラウス・オーガマンの功績でもある。

プライベートではラフマニノフやクシャトリアンなど現代音楽のピアノを好んで弾いていたというエヴァンス。しかし、（それはそれで悪くないのだが）アローンシリーズなどソロ作ではジャズたろうという意識が強く感じられて、滑らかなクラシックピアノからは遠かった。この作品では晩年トリオ演奏でも顕著になっていった美しく滑らかでいながら凛とした骨のあるエヴァンスのピアノを辛口のウィズストリングスで堪能できる隠れ名盤であるとオススメしたい。しっかし、変なジャケェ
