ダークスローンは今となってはブラックメタルファンにとって有名でありますが、メイヘムやバーズムも今ほど日本で知られていなかったころ、某ＣＤ屋さんでこのアルバムを買いました。

ソウルサイドジャーニーでは少しブラック色をにおわすデスメタル（当時は変わったデスにしか聞こえませんでしたが）を演られていました。が、このＣＤを最初に聴いたときは怖さ（狂気に対する）みたいなのを感じた覚えがあります。あまりの変貌ぶりにこいつらおかしくなったのか？って正直思いました。

音質は最悪（1枚目よりも確かに悪いです）とか、ジャケもなんかねぇ（でも裏はカッコイイッす）とか、演奏も上手いのかなぁ（実は演奏うまいですよっ）とか、「地味っ」（シンセはないし、といって高音と重低音はない!!すし）とか思う人がいるかもしれません。確かにそうかもしれませんが、でも不思議なことにむちゃくちゃカッコイイです。いまだに聴いてます。

世にも恐ろしいノルウェーのトゥルー・ブラックメタルバンドの二作目。ジャケットが心霊写真みたいなコレなのに加え、音割れまくりのギター、擦れまくりの高音デスヴォーカル、凄まじいバッテリーを効かすドラムが生み出す恐怖のアンサンブルを極悪極まる音質で包み、更にはイントロの呪術的なSEのおっかないことといったら・・・。ポピュラリティは皆無。曲云々ではなく、音の放つオーラというか禍々しい“気”のようなもので聴かせる音楽。マニア向け。
