香津美のトリオでのサウンド作りは前2連作に続いて3作目だが,メンバーの違いでこうもサウンドの響きが変わるものだろうか。てなくらいに柔軟性ある新しい展開を見せているのが今作。バンドの合性はかなり!とみた。ショーターのソロも凄い。LA録音。

1989年発表。
発表順では『Spice Of Life』(1987)→『Spice Of Life2』(1988)の次が本作で、渡辺香津美が世界の一流ミュージシャンと積極的にアルバムを作っていた時期である。僕の持っているCDも米GRAMAVISION盤で既に外人選手扱いである（●＾o＾●）。

メンバーがなかなかユニークで、キーボードにパトリック・モラーツを起用している一方で2曲でウェイン・ショーターが参加している。パトリック・モラーツと言えばYesの『錯乱の扉(リレイヤー)』が最も印象的な超絶技巧型プログレシブ系キーボーダーだが、そこに純粋ジャズからウエザー・リポートまでの範疇を持つウェイン・ショーターが加わり、渡辺香津美の音楽性が加わるとどんな音楽が結果として出てくるのか予想しがたいものだったが、結論的には『Spice Of Life』(1987)の延長線上を目指してモラーツとショーターの味付けを加えた感じのちょっぴり不思議な味付けのドレッシングのような作品となっている。

ベースは実にジェフ・バーリン風。1の『1000Mega』はモラーツの2の『Capri』はショーターの特徴がでていてなかなか佳曲である。でもでもまだまだ『Spice Of Life2』(1988)の方向性を上手く見いだせない悩みが随所に感じられて一貫性はない。一番方向性的に僕が正しいと思うのは最後の『Good Night Machine』であるが人によって思い描くことは違うかもしれない（●＾o＾●）。

閑話休題。テクニック的には不動の至高さを確立していて文句なしではなるが、あまり好きでないアルバムだ。

日本のジェフ・ベックと言ったら、怒られるだろうか、渡辺香津美氏の流麗なアルバム。ギター渡辺、ベースBunny Brunel、ドラムスJohn Wackermanのトリオを核に、サックスのWayne Shorter等のゲスト・ミュージシャンが参加しています。

トリオの息がピッタリと合っていて、リズム感と勢いがとても心地良い。ただちょっと技巧に走りすぎていて、音楽そのものが少々物足りないのが残念。氏のアルバムでは、「キリン」や「トチカ」のほうがずっと好きです。
