このコンピは時と場所によって聴きかたが大きく変わるので、とりあえず★３つで。雰囲気のある場所で聴くと良いが、家でゴロゴロしながら聴くタイプのCDではないと思う。

Suburbiaを主催する橋本徹氏によるFree Soulコンピレーションシリーズの"Parade"。シリーズ毎に選曲のコンセプトが明確にされた日本発の名コンピの一つだろうと思う。この"Parade"の特徴は、とにかく熱い。ラテンフレーバーを取り入れた楽曲から、激しいシャウトを聴かすシンガー、コンガやボンゴを使用したパーカッションの嵐とグルーヴを重視した選曲で構成されている。こういった肉体的グルーヴは人間の心を否応無く高揚させる力がある。元気を出したい時や、仲間内で大騒ぎしたい時に重宝するアルバムであるように思う。

オープニングはG.C.Cameronの激しい歌声と、何処か哀愁漂うギターが重なり合ったソウル界の名曲、The Spinnersの"It's A Shame"からスタートする。この曲に関しては、古くからのソウルミュージックファンも、新しいクラヴシーンを経てきた若い層からも人気のある楽曲。そして、そのまま勢いでどんどん加熱していく展開で最後まで心地良い熱さで突っ切っていく。その為か、Free Soulシリーズの中でも特に1位2位を争うほど、人気のある作品であろうかと思う。

僕が好きなのは、何処か"It's A Shame"のような熱さと、哀愁を漂わせるThe Jonesesの"I Can't See What You See In Me"。そしてG.C.Cameronのソロ作でもある"No Matter Where"はかなりカッコいい。疾走感溢れるタイトなグルーヴが本当に心地良いCoke Escovedoの"I Wouldn't Change A Thing"なんかも目玉ナンバーの一つのように思う。この"Parade"はいつまでも飽きの来ない、そんな魅力がある作品だと思っている。

フリーソウルシリーズの中でも最もバランスのとれた1枚だと思います。
最初から最後まで曲順に大変気を使っているな、というのがよくわかります。
1. It's A Shameと、3. I Wouldn't Change A Thingはほんとに素敵な大名曲。
友人等にフリーソウルをすすめるなら、最初の1枚はベスト盤ではなくこの「Parade」。
（本当は「garden」を薦めたいが、あちらは廃盤のため）
