アベニューは、心地よい曲が多くてオススメです。
私の周りでも、フリーソウルシリーズの中で一番好きだという声あり。
個人的には2のメリサ・マンチェスターが好き。

このアルバムは、全体的にややおとなしいかんじ
のアルバムです。

その中でも15曲目のAl.Kooperのカバーである
Dawn「JOLIE」が一番いいです。
大学時代に友達の部屋でこの曲を聴いて、
フリーソウルの虜になってしまいました。
いまよくCMで流れてますね。

6曲目のThe New Birth「NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE」
はジャクソンファイブのカバーですが、女の子が

気に入りそうな甘い曲です♪

Suburbiaを主催する橋本徹氏の一大ムーヴメントを起こしたFree Soulコンピレーションシリーズ。この"Avenue"というタイトルで選曲された楽曲は割りと軽めの軽快なラテン系ダンスミュージックといった雰囲気が強い。「Avenue（並木道）」というタイトルに相応しい、風の爽やかな晴れた日に、歩きながら聴きたい音源だ。

多くのFree Soulシリーズの中でもこの"Avenue"はかなり橋本氏の好みが表れた選曲であるように思う。SMAPの「がんばりましょう」ネタでもあるNiteflyteの"You Are"から始まり、Stevie Wonder作曲で知られる、Melissa Manchesterの"Bad Weather"やJose Felicianoの"Golden Lady"なんかは多分彼のツボなのではないかな？と思う。Al Kooperのバージョンで有名な"Jolie"やIsleysの名曲"Work To Do"の、別のカバーバージョンが収録されている所も、なんとなく橋本氏の好みがモロに出ているように思う。

僕個人的に好きなのは、Jackson5の名曲"Never Can Say Goodbye"と、若きMichael Jacksonの歌った"Wanna Be Where You Are"のカバーバージョン。元々好きな曲でもあれば、カバーのクオリティも高い所為か、このバージョンを知れた事は少し嬉しかった。
このコンピの中では少し異色だけれど、Lou Reedの"Walk On The Wild Side"なんかは、聴き所の一つではないか思う。

こうして、色々なアーティストを知れるFree Soulコンピは外れがあまりないので、ソウル入門としても凄くお薦めであると思う。
