プロコル・ハルムの「青い影」は、深夜放送に流れる海外のヒットチャートを追っていた頃の思い出の曲です。40年近く経ちますが、その音楽は今も色あせません。自分の中では本当に大切にしたい曲の一つだと思っていますし、名曲ですね。

1967年4月に発売された「青い影」は、すぐに世界的な規模での大ヒット・ナンバーとなりました。
この曲は、バッハのカンタータ第114番の「ああ、愛しきキリストの徒よ、雄々しかれ」の主題に基づくオルガン演奏によっている、と紹介されることがありますが、モチーフは似ていませんね。

コード進行をみますと、同じくバッハの『Ｇ線上のアリア』（『管弦楽組曲第3番 ニ長調』第2曲『Air(エア)』）のほうがモチーフになっているように思います。
「青い影」のベースの下降ラインが、バッハの『Ｇ線上のアリア』のバスの旋律と同じように展開しているのはよく解かります。

バッハのオルガン曲のコード進行は、ユーミンの「ひこうき雲」や「翳りゆく部屋」にもその影響がみられます。
クラシック音楽の影響力の強さは、その後の「エマーソン・レイク・アンド・パーマー」や「キング・クリムゾン」のブリティッシュ・ロックにも引き継がれていきました。

今聴いても、色あせることのない、永遠の「ロック・サウンド」です。素晴らしい曲だと思っています。
