前作「ジャイアント・ステップス」がまさに大きな一歩だった、さらにこの「ウェイクアップ」(1995年作)で覚醒し、初期のシューゲイザー的轟音バンドのイメージを完全に払拭した。このアルバムで、彼らはコンパクトでキャッチーな曲作りに挑戦し、見事ポピュラリティを得ることとなる。この試みがバンドが思っていた以上に反響を得たのは、多分にボーカルのサイスの声質というのが、まるで60'Sのソフトロックグループのように甘い歌声であることも要因となったのだろう。新しいファンを彼らはここで獲得することに成功したわけだ。そして、次作「カモン・キッズ」では、逆に「ウェイクアップ」的な要素を封印し、彼らのもっとディープな部分を新たにファンとなった人々に叩きつけた。結果は不評だった。しかし、この試みこそブー・ラドリーズの音楽に対する誠実さを表していると僕は思う。もっとも高いハードルを越えようとしたわけだ。そして冷静にアルバム自体の出来を聴いてみたとき、駄作などでは全くなかったことは、多くのミュージシャンがこのアルバムをフェイバリットに挙げていたことで証明されていると思う。そしてバンドは集大成的な名盤「キングサイズ」を1998年に発表してあっさりと解散した。なんと清いバンドだったのだろう。

ブーラドリーズ解散したの知らなかった・・・今思えばこのアルバムが出た時
が一番良い時だったのかな？そう思って聴くと悲しくなるんだけど、１曲目はやっぱり、いつ聴いても名曲だよね。何でこのまま続かなかったのかな~？

ビートルズ風にコーラスも美しく前よりだいぶポップで聴きやすくなっている。でもちょっとしつこいところや癖のあるところがやっぱりブーラドリーズだね！もう戻ってこないのかな~？悲しいよ~

1曲目のインパクトはやっぱり凄い
ザ・ナックの「マイシャローナ」ばりにキャッチ-でポップで一発で覚えられる。ビートルズ直径のパワーポップ炸裂！解散が惜しまれるバンドでこれから期待してたのに残念！
