1991年7月ウイーン国立歌劇場(シェターカペツレ)でのソロ・ライブ。

出たしはまるでモーツアルトのソナタの様だが、展開はまさにキースのピアニズムになっていく。『魔笛』や『フィガロの結婚』といった優れたモーツアルトのオペラが上演された歴史あるその場所で展開されるキースの世界は純に芸術的だ。

ただ段々にラ・スカラの様にフリーになっていく。僕にはその変遷はまるで古典派のモーツアルトから新ウィーン学派のシェーンベルクへのウィーンの歴史を聴いている様でもある。

これがウィーンのキースの『天啓』だなと思えた。

ハミングです。いつものように、うがー、とか、グボゥオー！とかきーきーぎーぎー言わないキースは、ささやくようなか細い声で静かに歌っております。そのことがこのソロコンサートの形容しているような...。いつになく、落ち着きのある展開はクラシック的、間合いの大きい、一音一音かみしめるような弾き方はある意味ビルエヴァンス的ですが、もちろん出てくるフレーズはああ！キースジャレットだなぁ、という味わい深いもの。若鮎が跳ね回るような鋭いパッセージも健在です。ジャケットもＵＶインク厚盛りでＥＣＭにしては珍しいなかなか凝った仕様。

静謐な演奏である。キースのソロコンサートのCDでは時折枠から外れて自由奔放に主題が推移するが、この演奏は構成が守られ、スタジオ録音「Staircase」の拡大版のような、ややクラシック音楽のような演奏が聴かれる。第1部ではゆっくりした主題から展開していき、テンポが変わっていくときのピアノの技巧が時に楽しめた。第2部では、やや和風の旋律が聴かれるのも、「Staircase」2枚めの演奏と共通部分があって面白い。
