レコード会社の都合でテキトーに寄せ集めたセンスのないベスト盤・コンピ盤が大手を振って乱発される風潮であるが、この「グルーヴィー・アイズレーズ」と「メロウ・アイズレーズ」の対となる2枚のアルバムは、アイズレー・ブラザーズを熟知したセンスのよい選者が、愛情をもってセレクションしていることを実感できるすばらしいアルバムだ。
どちらのアルバムにも捨て曲は一切なく、選び抜かれた名曲が気持ち良く並べられてぴったりとパッケージされている。

90年代の日本にソウルムーヴを沸き起したSUBURBIAの橋本徹氏が監修したIsley Brothersのグルーヴ溢れる楽曲を集めたコンピレーションアルバム。"Mellow Isleys"と共に、Isleyフリークの橋本さんによるファンクサウンド満開の編集盤だ。こちらもIsleys初心者に自信を持ってお薦め出来る内容だと思う。

このアルバムで橋本さんの好みが反映されている所が、ライヴ盤とスタジオ録音盤の2つが収録されている"Work To Do"だろうと思う。現代でのこの曲の人気は間違いなく橋本さんが作ったものであるような気がするし、他のフリーソウルシリーズを聴いていても、この曲をカバーしたAverage White Bandのバージョンが入っていたりとしょっちゅう登場する。

なんと言っても捨て曲が一曲もないこの選曲は確実に満足出来ることを保証出来る。僕が個人的に好きな楽曲は"Harvest For The World"、"Love The One You're With"。全盛期の「3 + 3」体制Isleysのグルーヴが沢山詰まったアルバムだ。

最高のコンピレイション・アルバム。

「WORK TO DO」「THAT LADY」「HARVEST FOR THE WORLD」
あぁ、捨て曲がない。

アイズレー・ブラザーズの
アルバム・ジェケットはジャケ買いしにくいし、
アルバムは多すぎて、
何を買って良いのかわからない人にお薦めです。
