ヘッドコーツはガレージパンク界の英国紳士達だ。ガレージパンクの魅力は演奏が下手ということでは決してないが、ヘッドコーツのラフな演奏の魅力は一度ハマると抜け出せない底なし沼。
マニア向けのロックと捉えられがちなガレージパンクであるが、ヘッドコーツはすべてのロックファンにあの頃を思い出させてくれる。

初めてロックを耳にしたあの日・・・「バンドをしたい！」「ギターが欲しい」・・・。
今夜、部屋に眠ったギターのチューニングを合わせてみたくなる魔法の音楽。自分にも演奏出来るかもしれない。って気になります。
まずこの日本編集のベスト盤から底なし沼にハマってみてください。

4曲目のI'm hurtingが大好きです。
自分も親父が大酒飲みで小さい頃は色々ありhurtingなことも沢山あったので（笑）、十代の頃この曲と出会った時は涙がちょちょ切れて、月並みな表現ですが沢山勇気をもらいました。何回も何回もリピートして一日中聴いてました。
曲も最高にパワフルで、Ａメロのぐっとこらえたようなラインからサビで歌いまくるベースライン音色もゴツゴツしていてピックが弦にゴリゴリ当たる感じまでよく録れてる。
それでＡメロは伸ばし気味に弾きつつ歌を引き立たせながら、ソロでいきなり音量がでかくなるギター、こういう感じは世界が誇るスーパーバンド・ギターウルフもパクりまくりですよね。（ギターウルフのパクり方が一番うまいと思う。）
それで唯一無二の出だしのドタドタドラム！！
すべてが完全に調和していて最高に燃えます。青筋チンポギンギンって感じです。
自分はドラムの録りはデッドな音が大大大好きで、特にヘッドコーツの録音はデッドでTOYな感じの録りのお手本とも言うべきトラックが目白押しですが、この曲はドラムだけの部分がちょっと長く（しかも超燃える）、この音、空間、時間を堪能するだけでも価値がありまくりだと思います。
うん。最高。

８９年から２０００年まで活動したＴＨＥＥ　ＨＥＡＤ　ＣＯＡＴＳのベスト盤。割れてるし演奏が巧いというわけではないけれど、６０年代ＵＫの音か？と思うようなストレートな音作りが嬉しくなりました。ロックンロール、ガレージ、パンク、キーワードは何でもいいですが、ギター、ドラム、ベース、ボーカルが、これを演りたいんだ、だからこれしか弾かなくていいんだ、と主張しているような、潔さと粗さがカッコいいバンドサウンドです。
