アレサのゴスペル作品と言えば『Amazing Grace』が歴史的名盤との評価が固まっており、本作はすっかり過去の人になりつつある印象もあった時期にリリースされて、さほど期待もせずに手にした記憶があるが、どっこいレディ・ソウルは健在であったと再認識させられたのであった。

彼女のヴォーカルのソウルフルさは誰もが認めるところであるが、それだけにテクノロジカルなコンテンポラリー風サウンドとは決して相性が良くはないというのが敗因の一つだったと思うが、ここではＲ＆Ｂ調の演奏と大編成のクワイアを従えて素晴らしい歌声が堪能できる。

ゲスト陣のいずれ劣らぬ熱唱も悶絶ものだ。いくつかの説教は好みの分かれるところらしいが、見事な盛り上げ方が目に見えるようで、（信仰はないけれど）私は好きだ。

７０年代前半までの作品群に敬意を表して★ひとつ減とするが、選曲も良く演奏のメリハリもしっかりしていて、荘厳さではともかく親しみやすさでは『Amazing Grace』に伍しうる内容だ。

クィ-ン・オブ・ソウルの名前で知られているアレサ・フランクリンだが、元々はゴスペル出身。。。小さい頃から父親とツア-を組んで教会で歌っていた。。。最近、日本でもやたらとゴスペルがブ-ムな様だが、本物のゴスペルを聴いてみたい。。。と言われる方にはこのアルバムをお勧めします。。。

１４歳でゴスペル・アルバムを出したと言う彼女の実力が伺い知れる。。。
