 「アメリカ」と言えどもロンドンで結成し活動をスタートさせた3人組のギター・バンドである。彼らの父親が米軍人で、そのイギリス駐留中に知り合ったためだそうで、1972年のデビュー・シングル<1>も、まず英でヒット、その後、米でブレイクするという逆輸入。
   本作は1972年から1975年までに発表されたナンバーを、ディスコグラフィの要素踏まえながら紹介したベスト盤である。ハーモニーの良さとスッキリまとまったアレンジ。いたってシンプルであるが、情景が見えてくる説得力に満ちあふれており、思わずその世界に引き込まれてしまう。（春野丸緒）

現在は収録曲の多いCDのベスト物が出回っていますが、アメリカの魅力を知るには、一番適したアルバムでしょう。いい曲ばかり12曲。アルバムになると3人の曲を均等に配するという配慮があって、どうしても個々の力量で曲のばらつきがあったんですが、ここでは初期のデューイ・バネルの曲と中期のジェリー・ベックリーの曲が中心で、高水準の曲ばかりです。彼らのピークはこのアルバム前後の「Heart」「Hideaway」あたりで、曲に若干ダブりがでますが、この3枚おさえれば十分です。余談ですが、ダン・ピークが脱退してデュオになるまで、彼らのアルバムタイトルの頭文字は必ずＨでした。「Horse with no name」、「Homecoming」、「Hat trick」、「Holiday」、「Heart」でこの「History」その後「Hideaway」、「Harbor」です。ムダ知識ですね。

アメリカが「名前のない馬」でデビューした時は、凄いスーパーグループが現われたと思いました。
ＣＳＮ＆Ｙと比較されるほどの評判だったですね。
いきなり凄い曲で登場したのですが、その後、ウエスト・コースト・サウンドの一翼を担っていました。
アメリカの印象としては、シングルヒットのグループという印象があります。

このベストアルバムは、７２年から７５年までの”全盛期”のもので、「名前のない馬」「金色の髪の少女」「ヴェンチュラ・ハイウェイ」など名曲が含まれていてアメリカの代表曲を知る上でとてもいいと思います。

　イギリス在住のアメリカ人シンガー・ソングライター、デューイ・バネル、ダン・ピーク、ジェリー・ベックリーの3人によるコーラス・グループのベスト盤。71年のデビュー作（ビルボード年間8位）から75年の「ハート」までの５作品から選曲されている。CSN&Yを彷彿とさせるとっつきやすいメロディ・ラインと爽やかなハーモニーが魅力で、アコースティック・ギター中心のバックの演奏も電気楽器が入ることもあるがちぐはぐな感じはなく、生の音に上手いこと溶け合っている。もちろん、“名前のない馬”、“アイ・ニード・ユー”、“ヴェンチュラ・ハイウェイ”、“ティン・マン（魔法のロボット）”、“ロンリー・ピープル”、“金色の髪の少女”といった大ヒット曲はしっかりと収録。本作のプロデュースはビートルズやスタックリッジなどを手がけたことで有名なジョージ・マーティンに依頼している。また、72年度にはグラミー賞の最優秀新人賞も受賞している。
