インディーズで音質はあまり良くないが、作品自体は素晴らしい。とがったサウンド、ZI:KILLやデランジェなどと似た雰囲気も持ちつつ、LUNASEA独特の冷たく暗く澄みきった世界はこの時点ですでに完成している。ニューウェーブ、ゴシック、ポジパン、メタル、プログレも少し…様々なジャンルが混じりつつもルナシー以外ではありえない独特の音の世界。「FATE」は短いのに強烈な印象。二重の意味を持つ詩も上手い。最後、昇りつめる演奏とともに激しく迫ってくるシャウトに心が熱くなる。「TIME IS DEAD」は前曲からのつなげ方がカッコイイ。LUNASEAの世界が渦を巻きながら聞き手の周囲に形成されていく。「SANDY TIME」は砂煙の中を手探りでさまよう、美しく幻想的な曲。余韻のある終わり方が良い。「BRANCH ROAD」はエロティック。掴み掛けていた絶望という言葉で急に断ち切られるように終わる…しびれる！「SHADE」は短い中にドラマが詰め込まれ、ダークで非常にカッコイイ曲。演奏・歌ともに激しくまくし立てヒステリックに迫るが、中盤ゆったり三拍子になり美しいバイオリンが踊り始めるコントラスト、更にその静寂を引き裂き飛び出すギター！かなり興奮する。「BLUE TRANSPARENCY」はストレートにカッコイイ、スピード感があり声色の使い分けも印象的、次作の「dj vu」などに通じる。「THE SLAIN」はゆったり静かだがインパクト大。インストかと思っていると不気味な声が湧き起こり歌も入る。最小限で短い歌詞だが、断片的な表現が想像力を強く刺激。虚無的で悲しい愛と殺意。「CHESS」は疾走し激しく突き刺さってくる狂乱。「MOON」は幽玄で壮大、美しい名曲。後のV系にこの曲への憧れを感じさせる曲はマリス「Le ciel」やDir「GARDEN」など挙げ始めると切りが無いほど存在。「PRECIOUS」はキャッチーで切れ味のある名曲。熱狂的な間奏が特に好き。

一般に、ファーストアルバムは作者のやりたいことが如実に表れるため、傑作となることも多いというが、まさにこのアルバムがその典型と思う。独創性の創出に苦しんで産み落とされた(と思われる)黄金期以降のアルバムも私は好きだ。しかし顔の整った美人よりも、口がでかくて顔のバランスが悪く、普段はぶさいくかもしれないけれど、楽しそうに笑ったときは最高に魅力的なこの子を私は彼女にしたい、もうこりゃしょうがない。
そんな感じのアルバム。
曲構成、展開にオリジナリティ溢れた「FATE」の並々ならぬ緊張感。
メジャー感がないのにポップ感があり演歌的ですらある「SANDY TIME」。そしてベースがやたらグルーヴしていて文句なしにカッコイイ「BLUE TRANSPARENCY」。そのほかの曲もやたらテンションが高い。

曲が原石のまま生き生きと輝いている。ヴィジュアル系ど真ん中で敬遠される向きもあるだろうが、それはさておき是非聴いてほしい。
演奏が少し拙く音が悪いのはご愛嬌。

1991年、エクスタシーレコードからリリースしたインディーズ盤。ライヴの定番曲「FATE」「TIME IS DEAD」「PRECIOUS...」などを収録。演奏も歌も荒削りだが、シンセサイザーにまったく頼らず、生の勢いだけをぶつけあって飛び散った10個の火花は、それぞれ単なる”激しさ””ハードさ”では表現しきれないとげとげしさや美しさを放っている。後期作品のような深みやグルーヴ感をまだ持ち合わせていないところは今からみれば物足りないけれど、そこへ繋がっていく可能性と潜在能力の高さは、強く感じられる。
