ゲストにあのジャズ・ギターの貴公子、ジェシ・ヴァン・ルーラーを迎えての新作。スタンダード・ジャズからポップス、クラシックまで、バラエティに富んだ内容に仕上がっている。

確かな表現力と広い間口、そして懐もたっぷり奥行き深いトリオの最新作は、全12曲中4曲でオランダの同胞ジェシ・ヴァンをフィーチャー。これがまさに、バッチリとはまる快作になった。ゲストと作った諸作中、アルバムからこれほど一貫した響きと意思が浮かび上がったものもなかったろう。サンタナの泣きのバラード(1)が、こんなに弾んだヴァージョンは僕は初めて。大家ジム・ホールに名演のある(5)でも堂々と独創の声を上げ、パット・メセニーとエリック・クラプトンの代表曲も軽妙に描き出してみせた。そこにさらに、プラットフォームの三人が、ジョビンやビートルズのナンバーでぬかりなく“静と動”“柔と剛”の音景を踏み固め、ピアノ・トリオ・ミュージックの醍醐味を反響させるのだから、聴き終えた時、類のない爽快感に満たされて当然。一見、お手軽な風合いの選曲も実は、演奏家と作り手がアイ・コンタクトで話せる関係にあるからこそ、ということにも気付かされた。 (成田正) --- 2000年12月号

25年喫茶店を経営しています。好きなビル・エバンスは店のＢＧＭとしてはうるさく、探し当てたのがこのトリオです。興味のない人にはじゃまにならないＢＧＭ、聞く人にとっては内容のあるジャズの願いにぴったりです。
「音楽いいねえ　ちょっとＣＤ貸してよ」と借りられる始末。特に哀愁のヨーロッパは最高。

タイトル通り、BGMとして格好なアルバムです。聞く人によっては、
いささか血の気の薄いジャズと表現する人も居られる事と思いますが、
リビングで食後のくつろいだ時間を過ごす折には、この手のジャズが最適。録音されている音質もグレードの高いものですから、再生装置も、比較的大型の良質なものを音量を絞り加減にしてお使いになることをお勧めします。心身ともにリフレッシュされますよ。

　一曲目の「哀愁のヨーロッパ」、もう少しまちがうと、ディスコのチークタイムになりそうな所をぎりぎり踏みとどまっている。しかし、ポピュラーな曲ばかりなので、じっくり聴くにも、ＢＧＭにするも、とにかく何度も、何度も聴き直して楽しめる、超お徳なアルバムだ。ゲストのジェシ・ヴァン・ルーラーのギター、自らのアルバムより、出来がいい？

　最後の曲「この素晴らしき世界」、ルイ・アームストロングの印象が強く、あまりジャズメンは演奏したがらないが哀愁ただようヨーロピアンテイストに仕上がっている。売れ筋ねらいの選曲も悪くない。理屈先行のジャズファンは売れ筋ねらいの選曲を批判するかもしれないが、聴いて楽しく、何度も聴くのがいいアルバムの条件です。（松本敏之）
