Holly Coleの1990デビューのライブ録音盤です、特にこのAlert Canada盤は良録音です。
（当ページでは1994年と表記されていますが、版の違いだと思われます、余談ですがAlert Canada盤は某所で3千円超で売られています）

Trio時代三部作（+1991のクリスマスブルース）のJazz系の彼女の録音の中でも、マイクのセッティングの関係で、最もボーカルが引き気味で音響的にバランスが良く○です。
（Trio時代のAlert Canada盤は良録音揃いなので、見つけたら買っておくと良いでしょう）

2ndアルバムの人気で、この1stアルバム（日本では2番目の発売）も日本向けに販売されますが、プレスの関係で録音質は格段に落ちます。

このデビュー前に事故でアゴを骨折したため唄い手として絶望の淵に立たされ、そこから這い上がった彼女の力を感じさせる盤です。

Trio時代のJazzシンガーとしての彼女の真髄はここにあると思います、曲は2ndの方が一般受けするかもしれませんが。

カナダの歌姫、ホリーコール(トリオ)のデビュー作。内容はスタンダード〜オールドポップス 集といったところ。

vocal、piano、bassのトリオ編成を中心に(曲によってはゲスト有り)、全体的に、シンプルかつ上品にまとめあげている。また必要最低限の人員からなっているので、ホリーの歌声を堪能できる。選曲、アレンジ、演奏もよく出来ており、名作と呼ぶにふさわしい。

ぼくはこの日本盤(東芝EMI、2000年)を先に買っていたのだが、音が気に入らなかったので、先頃こちらに買い換えた。確かに声がダイレクトに聞こえてくる。そして日本盤で一番気に入らなかった部分、ピアノの音が、とても良い。ちゃんと美しく響いている。
ただ残念な点は、ミックスのせいだろうが、声以外の楽器の録音ボリュームが少し小さくされていることである。しかしこの名作が美しい音で楽しめることは、大変すばらしい。
買って損なし!

ちなみにここのサイトの日付表示は間違っていて、リリース日付が1998年になっているが、実際に来る商品は1990年発売のもの。

非常に抑制されたアレンジで、囁くように始まる"My Foolish Heart"。これは大人の恋なんだろうか少女の恋なんだろうか。恥じらいなのだろうかそれとも照れなのだろうか。この不思議な曲で引き込まれるのはヴォーカルにベースにピアノという至ってシンプルなトリオの世界。酒のBGMなんかに聴いていると、"Downtown"が流れる頃には浮き世の些細な事なんてどうでもよくなっちゃいます。
