ヘヴィなタイト・ビートに乗って、ホーン・セクションが鋭利に振動する、ベイエリアを抜けるファンクの風。それが、オープナーと6曲目で激しく舞った。これに何度となくあたりながら免疫ができないままの僕は、胸騒ぎの連続。それに限らず、ビ・バップの(8)、アーバン・コンテンポラリーな(3)、アンビエント的な(4)など、さまざまなサウンドの風合いをかざしながら、地面を踏みしめる両脚は、ずっしりと安定している。多彩な舞台を越境してきたベーシストらしさと、それを可能にさせた資質の芯にあるものが聴けた気がした。さらなる驚きは、渡辺貞夫、渡辺香津美、野呂一生など、青木の創意に深い色と味を添えた顔ぶれの豪華さだ。恩師、先輩、同僚、後輩たち。これらのほとんどすべてが、共演歴のある仲間というのが、体験の豊かさと確かさを映し出している。コンセプトの軸になったのも、その点。その結果彼は、これまでの体験に示しをつけながら、一方でそれを乗り越えてしまったといっていいだろう。 (成田正) --- 2000年08月号

思い出してみれば、ＣＤを初めて購入したのが〔ダブルフェイス〕だった。
そこから角松敏生や、フュージョンへのめり込んだのでした。
久々に購入した今作も、聞きやすく、今までの経験が濃縮された様なアルバムで最高の気分です。
その青木氏が他界されたというのが本当にショックですが、私は一生このアルバムを聞き続けるでしょう。

日本のフュージョン界を代表するベーシストだった青木智仁の、超強力なソロ作品だ。
彼のベースはチョッパー奏法だけでなくフィンガーピッキングにおいても音のリリースタイミングが大変正確で、精密機械のように安定したリズムを刻む。ベースという楽器はもともと音の振幅が大きいだけに意外と大雑把に弾いても「乱れ」はさほど気付かない。よほど細部に渡るまで聴こうとしない限り、ベーシストの“腕”の優劣は分りにくい楽器なのだ。しかし青木智仁のベースは指のタッチから音のリリースまでが驚異的に安定しており、あのマーカス・ミラーにも劣らないほどの技術を持ったベーシストだった。またそれでいて骨太な音作りであるために、どんな楽曲においても青木のベースを基礎構造体としてその上にギターやキーボード、ブラス・セクションらが乗っかった「音の三角形」を構築しているように聴こえる。
80年代に流行したチョッパービンビンのファンク・ビートが物凄い疾風感で駆け回る。まさに颯波のごとき素速さと迫力だ。楽曲群も退屈な曲が全くなく、全編に渡り色濃く濃密なフュージョン/ファンクを堪能出来る見事な作品。
青木氏は人間的にも素晴しい方で、数多くのミュージシャンが彼を尊敬していたと聞く。この作品にも多くのビック・ネームのミュージシャンらが参加している。若くして逝去してしまったのが本当に惜しかった。

なんと、先程青木氏が他界されました。（合掌）　角松バンドのサポートで拝見し、前作〜本作と拝聴しました。　LIVEでの”ビンビンチョッパー”なんかと違い、しっとりとおしゃれなサウンド、ソロアルバムではほんとやりたい方向はこんな感じだったんだな〜と感じさせるアルバム、夜、彼女やかみさんとおしゃれに一杯飲むときにムーディーな１枚です。
