１９８０年リリース。ジョンエサリッジ（Ｇ）とリックサンダース（Ｖｌｎ）によって結成された２ｎｄＶＩＳＩＯＮ唯一のアルバム・・・ブリティッシュジャズロック珠玉の大名盤！！ソフトマシーン「ＡＬＩＶＥ＆ＷＥＬＬ」で超絶ぶりを発揮した２人のバンドという事でとにかく聴きたかったアルバム・・・ＣＤ化には本当感謝です！！内容はリックの素晴らしいヴァイオリンを全面的にフューチャーし、感触としてはジャンリュックポンティやディキシードレッグス的なものです。ジョンエサリッジがこれまた素晴らしい・・・リックとの相性は抜群です！！ソフトマシーン「バンドレス」「ソフツ」「アライヴ＆ウェル」が好きな方は、特にも必聴・必携・・・ジャズロックファンは勿論はずせません（笑）！！因み??他メンバーは、デイヴブリストウ（Ｋｅｙ）・ジョナサンデイヴィ（Ｂ：元グリフォンらしい）・ミッキーパーカー（Ｄｒ）・・・皆さん巧いです！！

カンタベリー系ミュージックの重鎮、ソフト・マシーンの末期に在籍した、ジョン・エサーリッジ（ギター）とリック・サンダース（ヴァイオリン）による双頭バンド「セカンド・ヴィジョン」による唯一のアルバムです。1980年発売。エサーリッジは「Softs」と「Alive & Well」の2枚、リック・サンダースは「Alive & Well」のみに参加ですが、ツアーメンバーのリック・サンダースを元メンバーとするかは異論が分かれるところです（その意味ではThe Policeのアンディ・サマーズだって元メンバーになってしまいます）。

あだしごとはさて置き、テイストとしては懐かしいジャズロックという趣きですが、極限にまで高められた緊張感に満ちていたソフト・マシーンと比べると、適度に「弛緩」してて、ロック、ジャズ、ディキシー、ポップなどさまざまな音楽的要素をとりあえずぶち込んだという感じです。その「とりあえず感」は、ともすれば「まとまりの無さ」にも通じ、全体を通して聴くと「だから何？」と感じないわけではありません。案の定、このアルバムを残したのみでコンビを解散してしまいますが、それもむべなるかな、という感想です。メンツの豪華さに惹かれたあまり「Softs」あたりで感じられたビリビリの緊張感を求める人には、お勧めできません。

と厳しいことばかり書きましたが、時折、聴かれるエサーリッジの超絶プレイは、ため息が出るほど切れ味が抜群で、テクニカル系ギタリストの本領発揮という感じです。だからこそ、ギターファンとしては「どうして常にそうしないの？」と歯がゆい思いなのです。
