現在も精力的にツアーをこなしているドゥービーの9年ぶりの新作。初期のドゥービーを支えたオリジナル・メンバー、トム・ジョンストンとパット・シモンズの二枚看板を前面に押しだし、原点回帰ともいえる手堅いサウンドを展開。ただし良い意味でごった煮風だった70年代初期のデビュー当時とは異なり、ソウルフルなロック色の強いジョンストン&DB、牧歌的なアコースティック・サウンドのシモンズ&DBとそれぞれイニシアチブを発揮し、曲ごとにはっきりと色分けされているのが特徴。ふたりの音楽性は今ではかなりの隔たりがあるのだが、付かず離れずで絶妙のバランスを保ち、アルバム全体ではちぐはぐな感じを与えず、きっちりドゥービー節に仕上げているところに30年選手の風格が漂う。キース・ヌードセンも元気、コンポーザーとしても参加し、ドゥービーらしい軽快で気持ちのいいマテリアルを揃えている。アメリカン・ロックの王道、ここにあり。 (茅場礼) --- 2000年10月号

再結成してからの３作目です。解散後、間隔が開きましたが３作目、喉の調子も絶好調になりました。従来にはない点は、メンバー全員が作曲やリード・ボーカルを取っていることが挙げられましょう。本来全員が歌えるバンドなのですが、７０年代から主として中心メンバーのトム、パット、マイケルがリードを取ってきたのでした。メンバー全員による競作と言う点で、タイトルも「シブリング・ライヴァルリー」となっています。音楽的には、初期の雰囲気を維持しつつも、今の成熟した大人のロックをしています。こうした味はベテランにしか出せない味だと思います。旧来の作品ももちろんいい。ですが、リアルタイムにもこだわるべし。

初期のDoobieBrothersの特徴だった気持ちの良いアコギのカッティングと美しいコーラス、ハーモニーをいかしつつ、少しＡＯＲっぽさの
感じられるアルバムです。７０年代のウエストコーストサウンドに熟練し
たロックンローラーにしか出せない、大人の味付けをしたという仕上がり
です。落ち着いたベテランロッカーのアルバムです。

非常に良質な大人のロックアルバムなので、往年のファンにも満足度が得
られ、Doobie Brothersを知らなかった方にも、お勧めです。

先日、訃報がありました。ドラマーのキース・ヌードセンが亡くなりました。初代ベースのディブ・ショグレン、パーカッションのボビー・ラカインド、サックスのコーネリアス・バンパスに続き・・・不幸なBANDです。
そのキースがこのアルバムでは曲を提供し、しかも自ら歌っています。これがまた良い曲なんです。
トムが復帰して再結成してからでは一番良い出来だと思います。
