70年にニュージャージー州ニューアークのクラブ『クリシェ・ラウンジ』に出演した際のライヴ・レコーディング。クロード・バーティ（サックス）、ロニー・フォスター（オルガン) 、アイドリース・ムハマッド（ドラムス）らを含むスモール・コンボによる演奏は、ジャズというよりR&B色濃厚なポップ・サウンドといった感触。この時代のグリーンはソウル~R&Bに傾倒していて、たとえばクール＆ザ・ギャングのナンバー（<1>）なども取り上げている。<4>はのちにUS3がリメイクにして話題になった曲。CD化にあたって、オリジナル盤には未収録だった3曲が追加されているのもうれしい。そのうちの1曲（<8>）はハービー・ハンコックの人気曲だ。グルーヴ感満点の演奏で聴衆を熱狂させるライヴは、当時の人気音楽であるブラック・コンテンポラリーにも通じる世界といえる。ジャズ・ギタリストとしてのグリーンを聴くには60年代の演奏が必須。だが、ここにはそれとはまた違う、70年代ならではのグリーンの姿が記録されている。（市川正二）
