　coldplayを初めて聴く人の中には退屈さを感じる人も多いと思う。
同じUKロックのoasisが「自殺したくなる音楽」と表現したように
アップテンポなロックを好む人には最初のうちはあまりの平坦な
曲調にいらつきを感じると思う。
　しかし、それでも３回は聴いてほしい。「静かなロック」と
表現される彼らの音楽は例えれば水の流れのようなもの。ただ流れて
いるように見えて、実はとても複雑に絡み合った様々なものが見事に
調和されているのだ。ハードロックの聴きすぎで疲れた耳を癒すには
もってこいの一枚。デビューアルバムにも関わらず４００万枚を売り上げたクオリティを是非堪能してほしい。

ずっと海底を這っているようでいて、でも雲の遙か上をフワフワと浮遊しているような気もする、本当に訳のわからないアルバム。
本当にこれが1stなのか?という気にさせる完成度。
100年の名曲yellowはいうまでもないが、vo.クリスは自分の声はどうすれば一番セクシーに、力強く聞こえるかを熟知しているように思う。
2nd3rdと比べるとやや玄人好みな感じはしないでもないが、ピアノと声とアコギのリラックス作用は計り知れない。

残念ながら一回聴いて良さを全てわかるのは難しい。
しかし、聴くごとに良さは徐々に深まりはじめる。
そして気づいたときにはもう抜け出せなくなっている、という魔法にぜひかかってみてほしい。

これだけ高いクォリティをもったアルバムに出会ったのは、ホントに久しぶりだ。とにかく全ての楽曲が素晴らしい。音の作り方や曲調にバリエーションがあるわけではないのに、というか同じようなトーンの楽曲ばかりなのだが散漫になったり、退屈させられることがない。スキや遊びのない、ギターとボーカルが特に印象的な硬質な音で構築されているのだが、メロディがあまりにも美しく、高い精神性と楽曲の完成度が高い次元でうまく完結している。欠点などなし。名盤。
