ベッカーとフェイゲンのミーイズムを標榜（ひょうぼう）したデカダンスを当時の風潮に流されるままに陰であざ笑っていた者たちが、皮肉にもまったく気づかなかったことがある。2人の曲に登場する主人公はいつもとらえどころがないが、これは実は彼らリスナーの姿かもしれないのだ。少なくともいま聴くと、ベイカーとフェイゲンは、いかにもエリート然としたサウンドの中からそんなことをほのめかしてくる。
本作は20年間の沈黙期間に入る前にスティーリー・ダンが発表した最後のアルバムだが、今回はデジタル・リマスターされた究極のヴァージョンとなって登場（オリジナル・アートワークや歌詞の掲載ページも復活）。まるでニュー・アルバムのようなクリーンな音質に磨き上げられている（3年の歳月と7つのスタジオを要した）。時の流れは『Gaucho』にとってプラスに働いたのだ――酸っぱかったブドウが甘くなるのと同じように。
素っ気なく超然とした態度は現在でも変わらないが、20年を経てリリースされた『Two Against Nature』は、さすがにスティーリー・ダンらしさの希薄なアルバムとなっていた。だが、ベッカーとフェイゲンが、前期スティーリー・ダンの遺産である『Gaucho』をドブに捨てたりしなかった点は評価できる。2人はただ『Gaucho』を磨き上げ、そして忘れたのだ。（Jerry McCulley, Amazon.co.uk）

Gauchowell--like sour grapes well. Even its sense of laconic detachment now seems but a logical bridge to the two-decade removed Dan of
Two Against Nature. To their credit, Becker and Fagen didn't trash the first half of Steely Dan's legacy on
Gaucho, they simply burnished it to oblivion. --
