元カーカスのギタリスト、マイケル・アモット率いるヘヴィ・ロック・バンド、スピリチュアル・ベガーズの2作品がリマスタリング&ボーナス・トラックを追加して再発売。『マントラIII』は98年発表の3作目で、現在は正式メンバーのペル・ウィベルイがゲストで参加。彼がプレイするハモンド・オルガンが、バンドの持ち味である70年代風のヘヴィなサウンドに深いニュアンスを加え、現在に至る個性を確立したアルバム。今回の再発では6曲目に収録されていた「スーパーボサノヴァ」が1曲目に移り、バンドが本来意図していた曲順に変更されている。『アナザー・ウェイ・トゥ・シャイン』は96年発表の2作目で、トリオ編成ながらインパクトあふれるハード・ロックを展開している。コアなファンならマイケルが弟のクリストファーと結成し、日本でも高い人気を持つデス・メタル・バンド、アーク・エネミーの諸作品と聴き比べてみるのも一興かな。 (飯塚達弘) --- 2000年09月号

アルバム冒頭の、軽快なボサノヴァからいきなり超へヴィなブラックサバス風なリフに切り替わるところではやくもノックアウトされてしまい、後は怒涛のスピベガワールドに呑み込まれてしまう。

特に、4曲目「EUPHORIA」は、ブラックサバスやレッドツェッペリンのフレーズを借用しながらも、荒々しさと凄まじいテンションで進んでいき、重い曲でありながら実に爽快である。この曲はまさに、ハードロック・ヘヴィメタルが到達した最高峰の一つである。

他の曲も充実しており、素晴らしいへヴィな音楽とはどういったものか、ということを体現したアルバムである。

現代の名盤として名を挙げることのできる作品は少ない。けど本作は紛れもない「名盤」であります。70年代のﾛｯｸにおける「味」を現代のﾌﾚｰﾊﾞｰで蘇らせた本作は何度聞いても最高です。重いリフとオルガン。当然ギターは泣きの旋律を紡ぎ出しております。いい！良すぎます。しかもｱｰｸ･ｴﾈﾐｰで美旋律ﾃﾞｽﾒﾀﾙの名曲を量産しているﾏｲｹﾙ･ｱﾓｯﾄが中心人物といえば手に入れないわけにはいきません。ボーカルもいいですね。男気溢れる、いい声です。
重いｷﾞﾀｰﾘﾌといっても、いわゆるDOOM勢とは違う、正統派70年代ROCKです。ほんと、本作はオススメします。
しかし2000年にﾘﾏｽﾀｰ&ﾎﾞｰﾅｽﾄﾗｯｸ&曲順変えで再発されてたんですね。知らなかったですよ。
