5.0 out of 5 stars 1964年当時のライブの熱狂を感じるアルバム, 2003/12/27
ヤードバーズと言うとどうしても、
エリック・クラプトン、ジェフ・ベック、ジミー・ペイジの
３大ギタリストが在籍したバンドとして語られがちだが、
このデビュー・ライブ・アルバムはそんなもの抜きにして素晴らしい！
これは1964年当時のブリティッシュ・ビートの勢い、
熱気がそのまま詰まった最高のロックンロール・アルバムだ。

エリック・クラプトンのギターに絡む、サミュエル・スミスの太く、テクニカルなベース、
さらにレルフのボーカル＆ハープがバンドを盛り上げる。
（決して歌は上手くないです・・・でも、そこに勢いを感じる）
古き良きブリティッシュ・ビートを感じたいならぜひ！！

このライブアルバムでヤードバーズは正式なレコードデビューを果たした。そしてもちろん、クラプトンもだ。
このアルバムに収録されている演奏がマーキークラブで行われたのは'64年3月。クラプトンの誕生日が'45年3月30日だから、このときたぶん彼は19歳の誕生日を目前にしたまだ18歳の少年だったはずだ。
このときに使用されたギターはテレキャスターか彼が今でも所有していると言うES-335チェリーレッドだと思われるが、当時音を歪ませることを邪道だと考えていたクラプトンが、本当にクリアな音でエキサイティングなプレイやスローブルースでの渋いプレイをイトも簡単にこなしているのを聴き、'64年という時代と18歳という年齢を考え合わせると、そのテクニックといい、フィーリングといい、先進性といい、驚愕に値するだろう。
その後、彼はThe Yardbirdsを脱退してBluesbreakersに参加、それまで邪道と考えていた歪ませたギターの音を今度はフルに駆使して、結果的にギターサウンドの新しい方向性を多くのギタリストに示したことは、クラプトンが子供から大人へと成長して行く過程そのものだったのかもしれない。

クリーム、ブラインドフェイスにＪ・メイオール・・・・
クラプトン関係は一通り耳にしたが、コレが一番熱い！

成長しなけりゃ〜ミュージシャンではない！のは当たり前だが、
イイもんはイイ！
ブラインドフェイスやＪ・メイオールなんか聴いてたって熱くもなれねえし・・・・
今のクラプトンなど聴いてて眠くなるだけ。

演奏、ボーカルが下手？
んな事言ってたらジャムやクラッシュ、ラモーンズのデビュー作など聴けたモンじゃない。
コレはそんな彼らのデビュー作同様のパワーがある！！！
