ロンドンパンクの雄として名を馳せた「ザ・ジャム」解散後、ポール・ウェラーが結成したユニットであるが、実質的にサポートメンバーも定まっており“ひとつのバンド”として解釈した方がよい。全体的にベースとしてあるのは黒人音楽であり、それを英国風に咀嚼したサウンドは確かに「オシャレ」ではあるが、実際歌われているのは痛烈な国政批判であったり大英帝国の持つ構造的問題点についてである。日本においてスタイル・カウンシルは佐野元春など多くのミュージシャンに影響を与えたが、どうもサウンド的な表現にとどまってしまったようだ。現在売りだし中の“パリス・マッチ”も、スタイル・カウンシルの曲名をグループ名にしていることからもわかるように彼らからの影響を多大に受けており、そのサウンドを継承しているひとつのグループと言ってよい。

一生聴き続けたい一枚。
ソフトすぎるくらいソフトだけど、おしゃれ。
ポールウェラーの才能に感謝。
ミックダルボットも実は天才だったのね。
ポールウエラーの陰に隠れちゃって、昔は気がつきませんでしたが。
マイエバーチェンジングムーズのなんともいえない喪失感が大好き。

スタカン紙ジャケシリーズ。
これ、ホント、カッコイイのです！まとまりのないバラエティにとんだ収録曲ですが、それぞれに味があります。
ＥＢＴＧのトレイシー・ソーンが歌うバージョンの「パリスマッチ」やピアノテイクの「マイ・エバー〜」しびれる曲の缶詰ですね。
「ヘッド・スタート〜」は、ミックとポールとＤＣリーがカッコよく歌うバージョンで、大好きです！
このＣＤの発売当時は、ＣＤも世に出た頃で、輸入盤を日本盤パッケージして発売され、確か３８００円もして、アナログで我慢していました。
その後、価格が安くなり購入したＣＤを今も愛聴しています。
音はリミックス発売された近年のものの方が良いでしょうが、当時の懐かしい音がして大切にしています。
近年はＣＤもかなり安くなりありがたい限りですね！！
