全てブライアン作曲のブライアンが歌う、美しい、溶けるようなスピリチュアルなアルバム。
１曲目から吸い込まれ、そして気が付けば全曲聞いてしまっていた。要するに全ての曲がたとえようなく癒してくれる、甲乙付け難い名曲ぞろいです。

実を言えば、いつ聞いてもこのアルバムを気に入らなくて長い間休ませていたのですが、突然にある日、同じアルバムかと疑うほどにこの初ソロアルバムに魅入られてしまいました。全ての曲に。ぜんぶ。

今回、ボーナス盤がついたのを買いなおしました。なお、このアルバム収録曲１曲毎に（全曲）ブライアンの説明が付属のブックレットに載っていて有り難いということもお知らせしておきます。

１９８８年リリースのブライアン・ウィルソンの、初ソロアルバム。当時、ビーチ・ボーイズの「ココモ」と対決状態になってしまったことが話題になった。それはともかく、本作品はブライアンのソロ作品では、最高の完成度を誇る作品だ。個人的には、Love & Mercyや、Melt Away、Let it Shineなどを好んで聴いている。今回のリマスターは、Melt Awayのファルセットが削除されたり、いろいろ問題のある利マスターだが、音質的にはベストなので、こちらのリマスター盤をオススメします。ポップス・ファンなら、絶対"当たり"の作品。

　1970年代から1980年代にかけて，ブライアン・ウィルソンはドラッグのためにほとんど廃人同様の生活を送っており，音楽シーンへの復帰はほぼ不可能であろうと思われていました（彼の自伝を読むと，それどころか，いつ訃報が届いても不思議ではない状態だったことがわかります）。

　ところが1988年，ブライアン・ウィルソンはドラッグ地獄から奇跡的に生還し，１枚のソロ・アルバムを発表しました。それがこのアルバムです。

　正直言って聴くまでは不安で仕方がありませんでした。アルバムを出したは良いけれど，まともに歌えているのだろうか？いや，どんな歌でもサウンドでも，こうしてアルバムを出しただけでも良しとしなければ....とさえ思ったものです。
　しかし，それらの不安は１曲目の『Love And Mercy』のビーチボーイズ時代に勝るとも劣らないPOPなサウンドを聴いて一度にふっとんでしまいました。そして3曲目の『Melt Away』を聴いたときには，そのあまりの美しさに不覚にも涙がこぼれたものです。

　さて，このＣＤは2000年に発売されたリイシュー盤ですが，Rhinoから出ているだけに音質は格段に向上しており，ブライアン・ウィルソン・サウンドのPOPな美しさがさらに輝きを増しています。それだけではなく，デモ・ヴァージョンを含めてなんと10曲以上ものボーナス・トラックが収録されているのです。さすがはRhinoですね(^_^)。
