「WILLIAM CLARKE」なんて書いてあるから有名なハーピストの作品かと思ったら、「WILLIAM CLARK」さんのボーカル・アルバムでした。誰？　ミュージカル俳優だそうで、大雑把に云えば俳優が出した歌もの企画アルバムといった趣ですが、実によくできてます。

シェイクスピアのソネットや「十二夜」「ロミオとジュリエット」を、正統派アメリカン・フォークや聴きやすーいストリングスにのせた感じ。伸びのある歌声が親しみやすいです。4曲目「ヴィーナスとアドニス」のみ何故かライブ録音。全体的に華やかでポップで、英国文学と米国音楽の理想的な出会い方だなぁと思いました。

バック・メンバーは日本で無名の人がほとんどですが、ベースにジョン・サイクスの片腕として知られるMarco Mendozaがいたり、ドラムにあのフュージョンのThe Rippingtonsで叩いているDave Karasonyなんかがいるのも要注目です。
