これは本当に大きな飛躍を遂げた2nd。大ヒットした1stアルバムを受けて、そのプレッシャーは大きかったはずだが、これほどまでの成長を遂げているとは思っていなかった。まず何よりも曲単位が粒ぞろい。メロディーライン、ビートどれを取ってもいい曲が存分に楽しめる。その中でも出色の出来なのが、Jam&Lewisがプロデュースを手掛けた(5)と(9)。シャープなビートに癖になるメロディーラインが最高の前者は、完全なまでにフロア対応。マジかっちょいい。そして後者も、タイトルが示すとおり、完璧なまでのパーティーソング。ほんとにメロディーがいい。言うことなし。踊らなきゃ嘘でしょ。そしてその他にもいい曲が目白押し。冒頭(1)からブリブリのビートでヒートアップ、そして1stシングル(2)は、ポップさとR&!Bの持つハードさとがうまい具合に融合した佳曲。何よりもメロディーが耳に残る。USでの1stシングル(3)もいい意味でのポップさ加減がいい。大人なヘヴィR&Bを聴かせてくれる(4)でも彼女たちの成長をうかがい知ることが出来るし、スパニッシュとフューチャリスティックR&Bが混ざったような(10)も癖になる。ノスタルジックポップとでも言うべき(12)も単純にいい曲だし、ほんとにアルバム全体がいい意味でのポップさに溢れている。1stアルバムで顕著だったアイドル的な曲調は(7)くらいか。セールス的には失敗に終わったようだが、これが売れないなんてもったいない、そんな魅力に満ちた必須アイテム。

ジャケ写からも随分進化したなぁと…。

En VogueやTLCの大成功にあやかって90年代のその後はガールズ・トリオ量産でしたね。
テイストが似ていてデビューが近いと言うことで、自分の中ではどうも
Cleopatra
702
Blaque(Blaque Ivory)
で混乱気味でした。


そんなCleopatra、1stはそんなに好きじゃなかったけど、今作はかなりクールな仕上がり。
サウンドに声が巧くマッチしていて、前述の他2グループに比べたら一番地に足着いているのではないでしょうか。
UK出身だと、アメリカ程ガツガツ作り込んでない分、軽さを感じられて好感大。

R&B色の中、爽やかに流れる

がとても心地よい◎



全くもってヒットしませんでしたが、なりきれてないTLCもどきなBlaqueや、弱い声がサウンドに押され気味な702←あくまで個人的意見。みたいな不満感はありません。

周りのビッグネームに踊らされていない、グループに合った良い仕事をした一枚。
オススメです☆
